The Unusual Subjects

 

Hello everybody! I have some good news to report. We now have our own gallery for this activity! It is labeled Unusual Subjects in the galleries section of the website. I would like to thank QuietRiot, a fellow member, for letting me know the diffculties of entering an image for the activity and suggesting a gallery would be easier to upload our images to and to Kristi, our community relations specialist, for making the gallery a reality. I think the gallery will make this activity even better. Since we have our own gallery now, you're free to use any medium you would like in your images. Feel free to let your art mediums and imaginations soar! Now it's time to reveal the unusual subject for June! Great idea, but I do hope people will post their result in here, because we are not following everybody, so we wont be able to see all if they post it in their own gallery. Or amI misunderstanding something?

We have our own gallery like the photography gallery now. There's no images in it yet. I hope that will be easier for everyone to upload their images and see each other's images. That's on purpose. lol There's nothing in there right now. We just started the gallery on Tuesday. I'm going to move my entry from May there so it will start looking more like a gallery. I'm going to see if I can get a few other members to move their May entries there too.

You know what, I have been looking for headers in the galleries too. lol It's easy to not know or remember what gallery you're in.

Well, I think you will have to do that in the beginning. Just to make the gallery more Famous. Maybe make people curious by announcing it with few simple words. English is many´s second language, so it can be difficult to understand an advanced info. :-P I dont know, if people will upload their pics to the mixed medium or photography. Does "2D challenge gallery" not cover both? If I am way out of line, just ignor me :-)

I will send out a simple sitemail about the new gallery. The Unusual Subjects Gallery will take anyone's entry from any genre now. That's why I'm happy we have a gallery now, we don't have to only upload photography or mixed medium entries. We have a gallery called Challenge Arena that I'm over where a member can create a challenge for other members or I can create a challenge for members. I think that would be the closest thing to a 2D challenge gallery. You're not way out of line at all.

That sounds good in my opinion. Good luck with it, Deenamic. I will see if I can find time for this, as it sounds pretty interesting. I finally saw the challenge from May. Have been away for a few months.

The entries we got for May were awesome! I can't wait to see what types of rooms everyone captures or creates. If you've been away for months, then you're probably just now reading my Last Week in the Gallery sitemails to you. It's better to read them now than never huh. lol It's good to have you back on here. :)

That's great news that there will be a special gallery for the unusual objects. I hope I will find it, at least I'm back in action this month. LOL. What I want to know, Dee: "is it allowed to place more than one image, because in the regulations it is only 1"?

Hi Jacomina! I was wondering where you were. I'm happy you're back. Yes, you can enter more than one image now and you can use any medium you want in it. It doesn't have to be a photography, mixed medium, or other apps image anymore. Yay, I'm happy you found the place to enter your image! I moved my May entry to the gallery an hour ago, but I think it's going to take a little while longer for it to show. Do you have any ideas for what you may do for this month's subject? :)

Oh, this is weird! I went through your link to, what I thought was the place to put my "living room", but I end up in nothing. So here is my first one, namely a living in the year about 1920.

This photo I took in a kind of "Heimat-Museum".

Hi Jacomina! Yeah, the gallery was looking really empty and blank, because there wasn't any images in it and now there's an image in there from Freethinker56 (Dee). Now it should look like a gallery. I'm still waiting for my image from May to show up there. I love your photo! It really makes you feel like you're back in the 1920s. Does the dinner table look really narrow to you? I guess they made dinner tables really narrow back then. I don't blame you for not spilling the beans on your "The Living Room" image. I wouldn't have spilled the beans either. lol :)

I had to look it up, because I didn't knew this English expression, and I even was happy that I anyway got the idea that it IS an expression. At first I went searched for a can of beans in the photo. Ha, ha, can you imagine? Incidentally, when I wrote about my "spilling beans", this was associated with a different image. With that particular image, I played in PSP, but in my opinion, it failed. lol! Have a great Sunday, friends, I now go searching for the Unusual subjects gallery.

I was wondering if you knew the expression or not. I was thinking this could go really bad or good. lol I'm sending everybody a sitemail on how to get to the gallery and I'm also pasting a link to it in there as well. I just wanted to let you know that The Unusual Subjects activity has its own gallery now. You're free to use whatever medium you want in your images and you're free to enter more than one image now. You can find The Unusual Subjects Gallery by going to the top of the website and clicking on the Galleries tab and then clicking on Sections. You will see Unusual Subjects towards the bottom of the page in between TrueSpace and VistaPro. You can still link to or post your images in the photography and mixed medium forums too. I think we'll have an easier time seeing each other's work now in the gallery. If you created an image for the activity in May or June and would like to move it to the gallery, then you're free to do so. I have pasted a link to the gallery below. Oh yeah, I forgot to say that June's unsusual subject is The Living Room, just in case you decide to enter an image this month. If you have any questions about the gallery, this activity, or anything else, then feel free to send me a sitemail. I hope you're having a wonderful weekend! :)

What an interesting living room you found there, Jacomina. And the father had the best chair, because HE was working. All the house work wasnt work LOL ! I can recognize some of the pots from my grandmothers house :)

You know, I thought the unusual images galery was something like what we had before. I'm referring to the challenge of photography forum, as we had until last year.
Then a new topic every month was chosen by the forum moderator (Clive, or Carin), and there was a separate thread where everyone put on their contribution.
Now I think I have understood it, that it's just as an option that you can choose when you save a new image in your gallery.

Man, how easy it is to understand, sigh.

Well, I dont know Jacomina, but it was a message in relation to what you said. First I found the old livingroom you posted quite cute and also very interesting. ANd i recognize some of the pottery from my grand mothers home. I am still confused, but my time is short, as it always is in the summer time, so I gave up on explaining my confusion all over again, when the long text disappeared, because I wanted to edit it. It simply wanished, when I pressed the edit botton.

You're welcome Helle! Like I told snowcrow1, just hang in there with us. The gallery is just another option for members participating or watching the activity to see everybody's images. A member mentioned how members were uploading their images to their respective galleries, but didn't know how to link to them in the mixed medium forum and they suggested that a gallery would be easier to use and see their images. I just want everybody to have options. If you don't know how to upload a photo or paste a link in the forum, then you can upload your image in the gallery and we can talk about them in this forum or in the mixed medium forum. By having the gallery, photography members, mixed medium members, and members from other genres can see each other's images in one place instead of having to go to the photography forum and then going to the mixed medium forum.

Jacomina, thank you for telling me about the challenge of photography forum! I know a member mentioned an activity like that, but I didn't know that there was a separate thread to put their contributions in. Yeah, you're right, the gallery is just another option. I hope members will link to their images on here and if they don't, then that's ok, we can still look at them in the gallery and ooh and aww about them on here. I hope your week is off to a good start too! :)

btw, Of course I can put these photographs also in my gallery, but I'm afraid I don't manage in providing comments back. This is because of the stupid stress all the time. Just to explain, not to complain.

Jacomina, it's a okay that you're uploading your photos on here instead of the gallery. You can upload them here or in the gallery. Whatever is more comfortable for you is fine. I totally understand about the comment thing. I love the series of living room photos you've uploaded! This is my first time seeing a miller's living room. It's very interesting and unique! :)

That's definitely unusual Andrew! I haven't seen anything like that since high school and college biology class. I can smell the formaldehyde right now. lol :)

A few members were getting confused about what images in the Unusual Subjects Gallery were for the monthly challenge and which ones weren't, so the non-challenge related images will now be moved to their correct gallery. I think some members may not know what the Unusual Subjects Gallery is for, so to make it a little clearer that the gallery is for a monthly challenge i would like to ask you all if you can put the title of your entries in this format, Your Title - "Month" Unusual Subjects Entry, so it should look like this, The Dark Room - June Unusual Subjects Entry. If you have any questions about this or anything pertaining to the challenge, then feel free to leave a comment below or sitemail me. I hope you all are having a wonderful week!

would it not be a good idea to write the theme of the contest in the title of this thread? Eg like this "The Unusual Subjects - June 2016 - The living room"

Thank you for that suggestion X-PaX! I will change the title of the thread to that to make it easier to see that this month's theme is The Living Room. I was trying to think of a sample title to show that you can still use the title you want to use on your entry and add the month and Unusual Subjects Entry to it and "The Dark Room" was the sample title that popped into my head. lol

I started a new thread with some new Unusual Subjects information in it, but I thought I should add it here too. Here it is:

New Unusual Subjects Information

 

Hello everybody! The Unusual Subjects Challenge is constantly evolving and I thought I should update the rules and information for the challenge. The background history of the challenge is still the same. For those that don't know what the challenge is about, then here's a snippit of what it is about. I asked coordinators, moderators, and members for various subject matter, it could be a word, a phrase, an emotion, a scene, a place, an object, or etc. and every month I type those subjects into the randomizer on Random.org and whatever subject it chooses is the subject matter you have to use or create in your image for that month. Now it's time for me to introduce the new changes to the challenge, the challenge now has two categories and they are:

1. Fixed Theme - This is basically the original challenge. A subject will be chosen via Random.org and members will have to incorporate the subject in their images.

2. Open Theme - This is for members that don't want to be constrained by a subject, but want to capture or create their own unsusual subjects.

When you have finished your images and you're ready to upload them, you can upload them to the Unusual Subjects Gallery (Link: The Unusual Subjects Gallery) or you can upload them or paste a gallery link to them in the Unusual Subjects thread for that month in the Photography or Mixed Medium Forums. There's no right or wrong location to upload your images, you should upload to whatever location is easier for you to access. Now it's time to get down to the nitty gritty, the rules, here they are:

 

Rules

1. Any member from any genre can enter the challenge and create their image using any medium they like.

2. Each member will have a month to create a new image or images that go along with the subject for that month.

3. Each member can enter however many images they want.

4. I know I changed the title format for the images recently, but I've decided to change it again so we'll all know what images are fixed theme or open theme. When you enter your images, your titles should look like this or something similar to this: Your Title - Month Fixed Theme or Your Title - Month Open Theme. You no longer have to put Unusual Subjects Entry in the title, because everyone will hopefully start to realize what the Unusual Subjects Gallery is for.

5. Members can upload their images to the Unusual Subjects Gallery or Photography and Mixed Medium Forums at any time during the month.

 

So there it is, The Unusual Subjects is going to get even more fun and exciting! I hope to see the same familiar members enter their amazing images and give awesome comments to their fellow members about their images and I hope to see some new members too! Hi there, Dee, and other friends, For me it is a bit complicated (being Dutch) to understand what we need to post here. I post here a living room of a castle from the 1700s, I was there two days ago (in the castle) and made a lot of pictures, which I thought were appropriate for the topic of this month. (Living room). Under dark room, is this a real room, which looks unenlightened??? Infin, I made this picture a lot smaller, because it's probably here better to advantage.

And then another question: When one does an upload of any unusual kind of photo, it is meant to do this under the category "unusual subjects". That's right, isn't it (I know so simple as that!). But here one have to put (for this month) only " unusual living-rooms, correct? Oh, I'm boring you all with my unusual uncertainty

Hi Jacomina! Dark room was just a image title example, I'm not changing this month's subject to that. Feel free to upload your living room images on here or in the gallery. I want you to upload them wherever you feel the most comfortable uploading them. You can upload your unusual images of anything and images of living rooms to the gallery or here. To keep down confusion on what image is just an unusual image of anything and what's an image of a living room, which is this montht's subject, I'm trying to get people to state in their image titles or somewhere in their descriptions in the gallery or on here that their images are for the fixed theme cetegory, which is the monthly subject, or the open theme category, which you can show an unusual image of anything. I hope I've clarified some things. Feel free to let me know if I've confused you even more. lol I hope you have a lovely day or night too! :)

I forgot to say that I love your photo! I didn't know that a castle living room would be so roomy. I love the matching fabric on the table and the chairs :)
