Subject: Poser 11 not working!

PurpleRose63 ( ) posted Fri, 10 June 2016 at 3:09 AM · edited Sun, 22 December 2024 at 8:50 PM

What the heck!! I had Poser 8 and the library stopped working. Then I upgrade to Poser 11. It worked just fine for awhile. Now today I go to open it and it won't even open! So I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, re-booted my computer....and still...nothing! I have noticed that Poser is pretty unstable for the most part, but love the renders it does. I DO NOT want to go to DAZ Studio, as I don't like it nearly as much. Please help! Any advice is much appreciated!

Hi PurpleRose63 I will move your thread to the Poser forum where the Poser 11 users should be able to give you some assistance

A couple questions before I advise you to open a report to SmithMicro. Have you upgraded anything else on your computer during this period. (i.e. Windows 10 update, java etc.)

I went to my updates and nothing that I know of since in May. Windows 10 mysteriously upgraded on my computer about 2 months ago but Poser worked fine until yesterday. I was using it and went to close it and an error message came up saying that Windows had encountered an error and needed to close and restart. After that nothing. I can't even get Poser to load. I click on it and the timer runs for about 3 seconds and that's it.

Hmmm. Ok, I strongly suggest you file a report with SmithMicro. Just a guess here, but it could be a Poser and Windows problem. Don't quote me on that though. IF they don't respond in a couple business days at most site-mail me and I will do what I can.

Ok I will try that. I am very sad and a little mad about this. GRRR......I have a love/hate relationship with Poser. Always have and most likely always will lol.

You are current with your SR's, right?

Couple of questions. Did you let Windows upgrade IE from 10 to 11 around the time P8's library stopped working? SMS issued a SR to correct the problem caused by the upgrade for IE 10 to IE 11 but the fix only covered P9 and up. You can easily fix the problem with P8 simply by going into your windows upgrades list and uninstalling the upgrade to IE 11.

When you launch P11, is it that it does not launch at all or do receive a warning box telling you that you need to activate the program? After I installed SR3, I tried to launch P11. I kept getting the pop up telling me I need to activate the program even though I it had been activated and working properly prior to the installation of the SR. I tried everything I could think of, I sent to SMS tech support and went round and round with them. In the end, the only fix was to go the manual, non-internet connection route despite the fact that the system it is on now has an internet connection. It registered and P11 is now working. Will I have to do it every six months? I'll let you know in a couple of months.

Did you try this?

https://support.smithmicro.com/customer/portal/articles/1982174-solving-weird-issues-with-poser-by-removing-the-preferences

Don't delete them, but move them, so you don't lose your library preferences. If it works, you can then copy libraryPrefs.xml back and see it it still works...

I have tried everything you guys suggested and still nothing.

My P8 crashed way before Windows 10. When I try and open P11 the little timer thing runs for about 2 seconds and then stops. P11 won't even open.

icprncss2 ( ) posted Fri, 10 June 2016 at 4:57 PM

It's not Windows 10 that is issue with P8. It is Internet Explorer 11. Something in IE 11 breaks the P8 library. If you go into your Windows updates and uninstall the IE 11 update, it should fix the problem with P8. SMS issued a fix for it but the fix did not cover P8. Only P9 and up.

Ok, so P11 gives you the splash screen, the cursor does it's whily gig and then it crashes to the desktop or does it just hang?

Did you make any changes to your system or did Windows do one it's updates between the time you last used P11 and when it started acting up?

Have you tried to do a system restore to see if you can take it back to before P11 started acting up?

Well...it's working again and better than ever! I did another un-install then re-install via the install manager. The first one I did didn't ask for the serial # and it didn't fix the problem. But this time my IOBit Uninstaller popped up and said I had 7 files that were not deleted. So I opened it and deleted them, then continued on with the installation. It asked for my serial # and then it I opened Poser 11 and YAY....it works perfectly! Seems even better....not as glitchy as before too. Maybe it didn't install right the first time, I don't know. But I'm just happy it's working now. The only bad thing is now I gotta go and add all my Daz content and my external libraries back in, but that's ok. Well thanks for all your help! And maybe this will help the next person that has this problem. (And she's off to create!) 😁

I have tried all proposed fixes above and reinstalled several times via install Manager. Poser Pro 11 will not start and is totally useless to me and very frustrating. I have the latest SR4 update, running Win 10, (X64). No idea why it quit working. Pappy

PurpleRose63 ( ) posted Sun, 12 June 2016 at 5:13 AM

When you re-installed, did it ask for our serial #?

pappy411 ( ) posted Sun, 12 June 2016 at 3:17 PM

No it did not purpleRose.

icprncss2 ( ) posted Sun, 12 June 2016 at 3:50 PM

Uninstall P11. Run an app like CCleaner to make sure the extra files are cleared out.

PurpleRose63 ( ) posted Sun, 12 June 2016 at 7:45 PM · edited Sun, 12 June 2016 at 7:46 PM

Yes...because the first time I tried it, it didn't ask for a serial # and wasn't fixed either. The second time it asked for the # and was fixed. But all residual files need to be cleaned out.

Currently having the same problem. Bought poser11 as a digital download recently. It all worked fine for a while as I tried to get used to superfly renders. Finally started making a scene then it crashed.

Now every time I try to open it, the executable works for a second, then nothing.

I've uninstalled, reinstalled.

Wiped it all and redownloaded.

Still nothing. Only get the serial number for download manager and that's it. Theres probably something I've missed.

I've also still got poser 10 installed, so short of wiping that incase it also effects Poser 11, any other ideas? Cheers.

Site Admin Online Now!

I can tell you that Poser 10 does not affect how Poser 11 runs. I have Pro 2014 and Poser 11(standard, not pro) both installed and neither interferes with the other.
