Subject: Sticking it to the Poser thieves and freeloaders (pirates).

I keep an eye on the file sharing...er...stealing sites and have noticed that the main torrent sites haven't had any new Poser or Daz3D stuff in several days. They are complaining that the 'DMCA squads' have been active lately even in their little corner of the world. Ahhhhh, it breaks my little effing heart that the greedy and selfish pirates can't get stuff for free. It's just too bad that they feel entitled to enjoy the benefits of the hard work of some soccer Mom or retired gent without paying them for it.

I've been badgering all the main vendor sites to get off their darned butts and start sending out takedown notices to the torrent sites for years. Hopefully this will continue. It would also be nice if the sites got together and lobbied the US Department of Trade to ask the Vietnamese government to arrest that sleazy scumbag, Phougdzu, in Vietnam and get all her sites taken down.

While I do not condone piracy, to be fair, if you go for currency exchange rate vs. median income in those countries that host the pirated software, a 10 dollar model costs the equivalent of 200 dollars to them. Hence part of the reason why a piracy subculture thrives among them.

It doesn't really work that way. It is up to the country in question to uphold US copyright laws. E. Europe and parts of mainland E. Asia do not do this. This is why you do not see torrent sites on US or western European servers. Although this could change unless we cave to certain EU member demands that we ban the use of "Champagne", etc in the US because somehow these are brand names in France/Greece, despite the fact that they are all named after the location that they were made in. Edit: Oh, lovely, the US and Canada recently caved to the Champagne copyright BS. Oh, how dare ANYONE violate our copyright on the name of a region of France! How dare Champagne, Switzerland call THEIR inferior wines (gaaaasp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) champagne! Disgusts me beyond belief, esp. the Switzerland and US parts.

It generally does work that way. The biggest provider of pirated anything is KAT. KAT does remove torrents at a copyright holders request. I see it occasionally with Poser/Daz items when an artist sends a DMCA takedown notice. Mainstream file hosting sites also respect them. Render-perverted-but-fun-otica have a gent who goes by the moniker 'Doc' who sends takedown notices a microsecond after the files are posted. As a result one rarely sees their items pirated and boy, do the immature kids in KAT whine about it.
We can't eliminate all of it, but with a campaign of quick issuance of takedown notices, the vast bulk can be wiped out, making it impossible for the casual downloader and much harder for the determined pirate. It disappoints me off to no end that places like Rendo and Daz do nothing, while a tiny outfit like R'otica has shown that it is possible (and not at all difficult) to stop the bulk of the file sharing. As I type, there are hundreds of Rendo and Daz items being shared on KAT. I guess they just don't care.

I was looking for a few of my products that Daz3D.com couldn't "find" anymore. The one I was really looking for was "Tempest" for Sadie. I found it on a site, "But" you had to be invited. To be invited you had to pay money. I suggested to the site that they let me download my own creation for free, otherwise I would report them. I did report them to Daz (no answer). Then I posted the image of my product everywhere I could find, including Google Images (aka Picasa) images. Labeled "Mine, Mine, Mine" Included by CT's Capricious Art INC.

As to "KAT" I'll have to check that out.

Thanks for the Info!!!

There's only four products for Sadie on KAT right now and none of them are Tempest. Sorry.
Getting back to the original post, it saddens me that no one from Rendo has bothered to reply. I can only assume that the don't care...as long as they make money.

Please do not assume this to be true as we take coprights/Warez very seriously...we send out DMCA notices quite frequently and anytime someone reports something to us and or asks us to look into something, we do.

We also keep an eye on some of the known sites regularly to see if any Renderosity items are on there and send a notice to them if they are.

We tried to talk to Daz about it and received no response.

We have gotten MANY items removed and even got some sites taken down.

HA!
I've sent you at least a million notices and have yet to see any file get DMCA'd. I just don't bother anymore. There are hundreds of Rendo files being openly traded on KAT right this very second. Maybe you should hire 'The Doc' from Renderotica. He does a great job keeping the place R'otica files-free.

HA! and double HA!

We do not CC members on the DMCA notices we send out.

Any emails sent to copyrights@renderosity.com and or posted in the copyrights forum do get looked into and addressed.

No need for the Ha's and double Ha's

Any emails sent to copyrights@renderosity.com get ignored.

There are presently 103 Renderosity items being traded openly on KAT. You know that they're there. It would be so simple to spend a few hours sending them DMCA takedown notices. Renderotica items never appear there because they get DMCA'd almost immediately. The experienced members of KAT even lament the lack of Renderotica stuff while openly thumbing their noses at both you and Daz because neither of you can be bothered to do a single blessed thing about it.

So ha, and many more double ha's. Want to shut me up?....send a pile of takedowns to KAT. Go ahead, I dare you.

I will not keep going back and forth with you and you will believe whatever you'd like. I know what we do here inside the office.

We track over 50 sites at least and send notices. I will consult with the Copyright Manager about KAT.

The owner of KAT was recently arrested, and the site closed down for now - whether it will return or not is anyone's guess

I hope you have a wonderful weekend! We will keep an eye out
