If you export as OBJ, there's a few settings you will need to be sure you have set. Choose OBJ, then select Blender preset in the Convert To parameter. Enable Show Individual Settings, and make sure Write Surfaces is checked, and also Write Material Library. You will also want to check "Collect Maps". This will make copies of the maps and put them into a maps folder in the same directory as your OBJ. Now when you open the OBJ in Blender, it should find most of the textures that were capable of being saved. However, you may need to manually add some on your own. This will be simplified now, because you have collected them all in the maps folder in one location.

Another option is to export from DS as and FBX file. This has the option to embed the textures or collect them to a folder in the options. FBX is a little more reliable when importing objects with textures into other packages, but there's more settings to be aware of. FBX can also export rigging, lights, cameras, etc. So if you don't want all that, you might be better off using OBJ.

Not to complain about it, but the exporter in daz studio is less than perfect. I mean, it has all the options you would expect, but the way it formats the obj text is a little sloppy. Poser is even worse, but at least in my experience opening the obj in Blender will bring in diffuse, bump, and specular just fine. It won't import normal maps or some others, so you might have to connect those yourself. Also, the parameter values of the maps won't be the same, so there is a need to tweek the materials to get the look you need.

Tools :  3dsmax 2015, Daz Studio 4.6, PoserPro 2012, Blender v2.74

System: Pentium QuadCore i7, under Win 8, GeForce GTX 780 / 2GB GPU.

See also my response in this thread: https://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/?thread_id=2905031 re: mCasual's DS and Blender scripts for doing this. Works with multiple items at once (although it choked when I tried it with a Stonemason set 😀) and sets up very basic Cycles shaders for you (with diffuse, glossy, bump and transparency only - any extra maps you need to set up yourself).

thank you all for the response!
