Subject: PoserPro Tut: Transfer Simulation Morphs Into Conforming Clothes Figures

This is a two part work-around tutorial for transferring VWD static simulations into (original used/pre-simulation) Conforming Clothes Figures in Poser Pro versions of Poser only (PP2014, and PP11).

The reason it is considered a work-around is due to the fact that VWD converts all clothing meshes (Conforming Figures, or static props) to it's own OBJ static prop cloth mesh for use in both VWD and Poser. As of this writing (and since earliest releases), this breaks compatibility with "original" Poser cloth meshes. This is because the VWD created OBJ does not retain the vertex ordering of the original meshes. For morph target creation work this is an issue, but there is a way for morph targets to still be created, and transferred into the original meshes.

This may only be a temporary solution, because VirtualWorldDynamics has shown interest in resolving this dilemma with the original meshes compatibility. In other words, this work-around tutorial might not even be needed in the future.

This tutorial focuses mainly on the second part of how to actually transfer the morphs from your VWD static prop to the original cloth mesh.

PART 1 - Prepare VWD OBJ static cloth prop mesh, and create VWD static simulation morphs:

This is just a quick primer to get you up and going. It is a simple process that should work following the directions below.

  • Workflow for creating a MT cloth mesh master from VWD to be used to transfer into the original conforming cloth object:
  1. Start VWD, and load conforming cloth into VWD, but do not run simulation.
  2. Immediately after, close VWD (VWD has already created a base static mesh that replaced conforming cloth in Poser viewport).
  3. Change name of VWD cloth (change appended _VWD [which is used by the software as a simulation identifier] to anything else [_M, _Master, _whatever]).
  4. Start VWD again, load the static cloth with newly appended name (_M, etc.), and run a wanted cloth simulation for morph target.
  5. After simulation has cloth how you want it, select "Send Pose To Host" button to send change to Poser.
  6. Immediately export OBJ to save MT to file outside of current Poser environment. Use setting "As Morph Target - No World Transformations" only.
  7. Go back to Full screen mode in VWD, and run another sim for a new MT.
  8. Rinse-n-repeat steps 5 - 7 until you have all wanted MT's.
  9. Close VWD.
  10. Load all wanted MT's into VWD cloth mesh in Poser scene.

...DONE...

PART 2 - Transferring your prepared VWD static cloth mesh MT's into the original conforming clothes figure:

Poser Pro versions have a Copy Morphs From function that works in two categories. First, is Figure to Figure morph copying for "Body" selections located under "Figure" drop-down menu. Second, is Object morph copying for "Object" selections (Figure Body Parts - Hip, Chest, Head, etc.), and comprises Figure to Figure, and Prop to Figure transfers located under the "Object" drop-down menu. This second one is the one we will be using to transfer the morphs to the original figure.

Continued from above:

  • Must be in Body Parts Object mode in order to use Object Copy Morphs From:

  • Transfer morphs from VWD static prop mesh to individual body parts:

  • Morphs successfully transferred to individual body parts in original conforming clothes figure:

  • Create Full Body Morphs from the individual transferred body parts morphs:

  • FBM has been successfully created:

  • And, lastly, the original conforming cloth figure with a completed full body VWD simulation morph applied:

As you can see, this is a viable workflow for content creators, and novices alike, to utilize VWD with Poser Pro to add simulation morphs to new products, or for adding more functionality to existing conforming clothes figures.

Happy VWD simming, now go create...

  • EDIT: Whew... That was quite a workout to get all the images to order correctly. Only a dozen edits...
