Ooooh, badges! Hurrah!
Do you have one for being a sarcastic git, or one for whining old curmudgeons? If not, then why not? I want one of each! ;o)
The 3Dcheapskate* occasionally posts sensible stuff. Usually by accident.
And it usually uses Poser 11, with units set to inches. Except when it's using Poser 6 or PP2014, or when its units are set to PNU.
*also available in ShareCG, DAZ, and HiveWire3D flavours (the DeviantArt and CGBytes flavour have been discontinued).
Seriously? Somehow knowing you're a Prime Member gleans some special information into how/where/when you're spending money? I'm guessing you must be seeing a badge I'm not. Maybe the crystal ball badge? I hope you're not a member on Deviantart, the Core Member badge must infuriate you. And the Llama badges must send you into fits of rage. Really, every single little thing... gripe, gripe, gripe. It's a damn badge. How about just saying, "oh, that's cute." and move on with your day. And it's always the same people over and over again trying to twist every innocuous thing someone does to make the site better into some major drama event.
P.S. Kristi, I like the badges, they're cute, good job.

Wolfenshire -
i don't believe it was a gripe; it is more of a concern, and as IcePrincess stated, one of simple privacy.
having worked in retail and/or customer service in some capacity, i've heard people, in general, feeling concerned, and yes, even angry, over what they percieve to be an invasion of privacy. there are a fair number of people who even refuse to shop in certain places if say a 'membership' type of card is required, even though the intent is for a company to be able to provide a better shopping experience, deeper discounts, etc.
i don't think voicing concerns, or thoughts, about matters such as these should give rise to criticism, but rather it should be p'raps things to think about & consider. i'm sorry if by doing so it caused you to feel so defensive to do so.
frankly, badges make no difference to me personally one way or the other. [shrug]
So, people can't voice concerns in open forum without the truly ignorant trying to make it into another battleground? Wolfenshire, like you, people are entitled to their opinions, and, like you, they deserve to be able to state them without a childish / ignorant attack such as you decided to provide. You like the badges, good for you, those who do have concerns, have a right to voice them.
Oh, and since you are a forum co-ordinator, perhaps you should already know better.
Locked Out
I am very sorry if some of you feel offended by the badges. We have talked about an option to make them private and we are still discussing it.
I am also sorry if you feel they were/are a complete waste of time as it was and is something we thought would be fun.
We are still focused on fixing site issues and these are NOT at all meant to anger people in any way.
I honestly do not want to get into a debate over these as it is not like we are posting how much someone is spending, an address, etc. I do understand the concerns, hear them and will do my best to address them.
We are trying here guys, how about a little bit of a break? It seems as if no matter what we do, there is a crowd that finds something wrong. I know and understand you all have been through a whole lot of changes and some not for the better, I get it and I am trying to turn it around. It does take time.
Things like the badges, if you do not like it, it's fine. However, there are a WHOLE LOT of members, Vendors, Prime members, etc that LOVE them.

hey Kristi?
just want to say, in case you inferred incorrectly - i don't see them as 'a waste of time', and understand they're designed to be fun. i CAN see how they can be a cute l'il thing/addition to the site. all i was saying regarding this aspect, for myself personally, since it's highly unlikely that i'll ever be in a position to qualify for a badge, is that since they don't/will not apply to me, they're something i feel neutral about.
hope you've a good weekend, sweetie! :)
Hey Giana -
You will qualify for at least one badge in the near future as we will be adding more in waves. We just didn't want to introduce all of them at once.
There is also a good reason for the badges in which all will see in the future once we get a few more things fixed
Have a wonderful weekend Sweetheart
Khai - We have been working on fixing things in the process of getting these badges up and going.
We can add fun to the site and still work on things that need fixing, updated, etc.

I don't have a problem with badges per se - I just wish they were optional. Let those who like them, keep them, and let those who have no interest in them, disable them.
Someone above me mentioned Deviantart and Llama badges. I'm one of those who don't give a rats behind about them, and have all notifications of them disabled, and never display them. I just see them as utterly pointless. Deviantart is now more about 'points' and llamas, than about art, it's a popularity contest and nothing more. It is also part of why they are going downhill. Too many sites are trying to be like Facebook, without realizing that if people wanted to do Facebook, they would do so on Facebook. I wish they would stop trying to be like everyone else, and do their own thing!
I honestly do not want to get into a debate over these as it is not like we are posting how much someone is spending, an address, etc. I do understand the concerns, hear them and will do my best to address them.
For one thing, being a Prime member could potentially lead to harassment by anti-Rendo trolls. There may also be times when a vendor or tester wants to hide such info temporarily if things are blowing up in the forums, in order to be able to post something while avoiding harassment. The harassment could take the forms of spiteful forum posts or hostile PMs (or in some cases, might even extend beyond this site) Hiding badges won't prevent all of it, and there are many very smart trolls out there, but your average troll isn't very bright, and probably won't even look to see if someone posting in a thread is a vendor or even top vendor, for instance. I do think that some of the badges are a waste of time, but whatever, it's not a big deal to me. However, the admin and tester icons I find highly useful and welcome them. They stand out yet are nice and tiny, thus non-intrusive. In some incarnations of the forums, it has been difficult to find the "admin" tag after someone's name.
Thank you for trying to make Rendo more fun. I like that. The badges are cute. Since I do not have any badges, that really does not bother me one way or the other if they are there. But I can see how it would get into peoples' privacy and lack of control with what others about them and what they do and an option to turn off the badges would be nice for those people. Thank you for trying to make rendo a great place.
The people that make the most noise are usually the people that care the most or are the most emotionally vested. The reason you don't hear so much from me anymore is because I care less and less. I found a place to go (which is dangerous for you guys because I'm one among many). With SM having their official forums for Poser and some people moving to DS and to the Daz forums, this place isn't as relevant as it used to be unfortunately. And the people that drift off aren't as likely to come back unless there's some huge effort to make the place feel "familiar" again. I'm not saying that to be mean. I'm just trying to be a realist ;).
As for the badges, I'm neutral. I don't mind/care one way or the other ;).
Laurie
LaurieA is dead on. The Poser community is defusing - If one uses Dawn/Dusk, why would we stay here? We hang out at Hivewire3d. With the vendors here refusing to move away from Poser 7, why stay here when there are more relevant storefronts - especially when this storefront has had so many issues for so long, and the owners are aggressively uninterested in fixing it.
Then there is the butchering of Prime - I doubt I am the only one that has pretty much drifted off after losing my monthly 30% off coupon.
Maybe an idea to link the vendor badge straight to the vendor's store.
And I would love a heart badge that links to my freestuffs!
I can see it guys. You just have to line it up like a file address.
All this from Kristi announcing a badge system. You know when I first started here I never would have been able to follow this thread, these days it is like a second language. I have always had the belief each and every member should be able to put forward their personal opinion on any subject and feel comfortable doing so, providing it is not nasty or designed to cause offence to others. Both the staff and members at times might not like or agree with what they see but should accept it as the only way to get a real sense of what is best to improve the site. Please be sure you speak for 'yourself' and not act like some sort of union rep speaking for everybody, because you are not. The badges might not suit everyone just the same as anything introduced or removed from the site but I can't see the need for a Royal Commision just yet.

We will talk about turning them off again Tuesday. I will keep you all posted.
Thank you and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
I for one didn't say anything about removing them. I have no problem with them so long as people have control over whether or not to display them to the public. I find the admin and tester badges especially useful and would hate to see them go.
@IceEmpress I think you will find Kristi was continuing where she left off with her previous comments. I had to start at the top in order to catch up where it flowed like a novel and I had read it differently. Although as quoted and out there all on it's lonesome I can see how you could interpret it the way you have.
Kristi's comment
Your suggestion is very reasonable, on topic and a viable solution that should suit everyone. As Kristi has mentioned they have discussed it too.

Hi everyone -
Biscuits, I like the idea of linking right to the Vendor's store and the heart for Freestuff contributors that links to their items
Iceprincess - I never said anything about getting rid of them completely, I said turn them off which is what you and some others have asked for.
Thank you for stepping in here Lobo, it is much appreciated

Thought this was about Badges, not about how great one site is over another? You get that comment at another forum so far often its so sad.
I think the badges are a good idea, maybe the idea needs a little more work before it is brought to fruition but it isn't like user concerns are going to be ignored.

This was more an answer to the poster that kinda went off and said people were being hateful for nothing. Was just maybe trying to explain their mindset. Personally, the badges don't bother me one way or the other. I know Kristi is working hard to change things and I've acknowledged that more than once.

Universal language and currency = BEER. Doesn't fluctuate as much as the dollar either. I always considered it a safe investment but it keeps disappearing.
Not everybody would want the badge displayed unless it was the Rendo R for "Hey you (R)espect your elders!!!"
As for
That is just something that old people say, I am still young and robust so I have not had the pleasure of using that line yet.

Admin, Moderator and Co-ordinator are all you really need.
I'll second this suggestion. I don't see the "need" for any of the others, so making them optional for members to turn on (or off) depending on how they view the advertising of their Prime membership, whether they're an Exclusive Vender, and especially Testers, as being a tester should never be advertised.

OK . . . Where's my chocolate?
The idea of having a tester badge was so they are easily spotted so if a Vendor had a question, they knew a tester was around and could help them.
We do have it on the list for some badges to be at the user's discretion

Ahhhhh, OK. I was thinking more in the terms of testers who test for the company (in this case Renderosity's Prime store), as opposed to testers who work with the vendors. At least if they have the option to use it, they can, but don't necessarily have to.

User Badges Now Live on Renderosity Today we're excited to announce that we've integrated applicable user badges to the profiles of each of our site's members. As we continue to strengthen our overall sense of community, these user badges will better help identify a member's contributions and/or achievements on our site.
The next time you view a member's profile or see a member's username around our site, you'll see an icon(s) adjacent to that name that will help identify that member and their community standing. By placing your cursor over these icons, a Tool Tip will be displayed as to what each of these stand for.
We hope you enjoy them!
