A still life is a type of image arrangement that traditionally painters (and photographers, sculptors, etc.) indulge in as practice to help perfect their techniques with form, light, shadow, composition. Usually, a still life contains no living objects -- i.e. no people, no animals -- as a vase, some cut flowers, a few pieces of fruit, a drape of cloth and such would remain "posed" for hours and hours, even days, without complaining to the artist that he was taking too long. ;) Here are a few links to help better explain what a still life is, and also to some examples of still life works that may help inspire you for this month's Theme.
