Subject: Do I HAVE to have and e-mail for my account here?

Lyne ( ) posted Fri, 21 October 2016 at 12:50 PM · edited Fri, 31 January 2025 at 12:20 AM

Google g-mail finally gave me the "last straw"! - I do NOT want to give them an alternate e mail, nor my cell phone # - just to sign in! I deleted that e mail account in it's entirety... The only reason I had a g-mail was for Rendo...but I never go and read any e mails, I get all the info I want for your site HERE....

IF I have to have an e mail, I'll have to find another provider... I could make one of my own...but Rendo sends me WAY TOO MANY e mails, and I don't want them on my server... and please, before you tell me I can opt out, I can't FIND, never could find, any way to do that...and IF I did find a way to opt out of some types, it NEVER WORKED... I'm not really "yelling", I'm quite happy here nowadays, but just making sure you understand my efforts...

So... let me know and I'll go from there....

Thanks so much,

Lyne

Not sure about the e-mail requirement, but you can op-out of receiving e-mails from us ... that is always a choice in your profile. E-mails are for us to communicate with you if necessary outside of the site-mail (i.e. you've lost your password or something on that order) and I don't know if it is a security precaution for member ID in case of legal issues. If an e-mail is necessary I am sure there are those of us who can recommend quality on-line services that won't hassle you. Most IP's provide you with one as well.

As long as you are able to login without issues, you should be fine. However, if you ever want to reset your password or forget your login info, an email is needed for that. Right now, our opt-out works for newsletters. But, you can choose to be notified on forum posts, freestuff posts, gallery posts, and we still send emails for purchase receipts, important product notifications on products you have bought (example: copyright or Trademark violation where the product gets refunded and a notice sent not to use it commercially due to a violation).

You can turn off newsletters in your profile settings here: https://www.renderosity.com/settings/

You can always use blur or masked to create an email that directs email to your own genuine email. I do it alot now, given that every Tom, Dick and Harry are getting hacked now days. That way I can use separate email addresses that redirect to my main email. but most importantly stops spam at the source. There is a plug in for chrome that comes in very handy.

Hmmm thanks... I'll give all this some thought... but it's so NICE not to have to worry about that box... I don't use Chrome, hate those 3rd. party browsers... I'm sticking with IE 11...

I think in mail.com you don't need to give them, for now, the phone number to sing up.

If you want a gmail, you can sing up with another email in mail.com and gibe that email to gmail as alternate email address.
