Subject: Working better?

manleystanley ( ) posted Mon, 24 October 2016 at 8:55 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 7:21 AM

Just checking in to see if DAZ is still developing carrara. I haven't seen any news of an update or new version, so is studio and carrara playing any better together or is the most compatible versions the 2 year old ones I am still running?

Getting burnt out on games. Seems game developers have hit on this new marketing strategy called "early access" and found out they can make money off a game before it's any where near complete. And lost all motivation to actually develop games lol They are just dumping 1/4-1/2 finished schlock on the market and calling them "early access" alpha/beta.

I've been reading any related posts at DAZ and other sites, nothing indicates any Carrara work that I've seen. I don't pay much attention to the DAZ Studio info since I don't use it, but I'm still avoiding *.DUF, Genesis, DAZ Studio content, etc. Only Carrara and Poser format for me.

I think I've got enough games to last a very long time. Mostly Rockstar - all the GTA games plus Red Dead Redemption and a few others, PC and XBox360. I don't usually try to finish the missions, just wander around looking for interesting scenes I can use in videos. So I'm not a good source for game recommendations. Here is a short animation using footage from some games - the bit starting @ 0:49 is from GTA4:

I do recall a long time ago some games were published WAY before they were finished. One of the game mags said a particular game had some bits of unfinished code and a few bitmap images. 😏

I'm just dropping in quickly to say that Carrara has been greatly improved by the plugin by Philemo(t) to enable the use of Virtual World Dynamics (VWD) Cloth and Hair Simulator.

There is a forum thread dedicated to VWD and a previous 'sticky' thread on the main Poser discussion which will show links and examples of the software working in Poser. DAZ doesn't seem to like VWD being discussed but it can be used in Carrara and Studio as well as Poser. It is amazing.

Thing is I was using Studio to convert mil 2,3,4 clothes to geneses and G2, saving as DUF,then opening in carrara. DAZ broke this and seems uninterested in fixing it. So I rolled back to the last compatible builds of both and have not updated since. Why ruin a good thing. {as the insurance commercial goes "because you're DAZ, and that's what you do.}

RE: Daz broke this and seems uninterested in fixing it? I use Genesis 2 figures almost exclusively now, I do so with my Victoria and Michael 1,2,3,4 content, as well as with Poser7 Sydney and Simon (going through wardrobe wizard to convert to M4 and V4 and then through Studio to convert to Duf).
What should I be on the lookout for? What is broken? I have converted literally hundreds of my older content items for use with genesis 2 figures Michael 6 and Victoria 6. My experience has been that only the dsf files from th initial genesis release have been a problem. Duf problems have been converted very well - much better than wardrobe wizard, for example.

Carrara mangling DUFs when opened. At one time Studio and carrara worked together practically seamlessly, almost like Studio was a plugin for carrara. Scenes and animations, even dynamic clothes animations opened with no problems. In fact many DUFs opened and looked better in carrara. Then it went side ways for over 18 months and I completely gave up on all of this. No preset g2 poses worked in carrara, opening a scene meant all sorts of issues that were unsolvable do to a frozen figures, clothes not coming in morphed or at all. I bought then returned a bunch of poses and clothes for G2 that just would not work in carrara. Nothing new for G2 worked, and G3 wouldn't even open.

DAZ may have moved forward in it's genesis line but it left carrara compatibility to it in the dust.

My experience has been the opposite. RE: "No preset g2 poses worked in carrara," - I buy and use G2 presets. In Carrara, if a loaded G2M or G2F has two levels, I make sure I select the level just above "actor" and then double click the pose preset in the content browser. Works for me. RE: "frozen figures," Hmmm, haven't experienced this. I can manually pose G2M and G2F by selecting the bones in the hierarchy and using the rotate tool. Works for me. RE: " clothes not coming in morphed or at all" My preference is to load my figures and clothes directly in Carrara from the content browser, apply any morphs there, and then apply the "fit to" function within Carrara. But Dustrider uses the workflow you suggest (as do others) and it seems to work for them. RE: "G3 wouldn't even open." Correct, G3 is not supported.

And there is lays the difference. I stage a lot in Studio then send the entire scene to carrara. Main thing, I absolutely refuse to install CMS so some feature do not work or do not work well.
