Subject: What happened to the Fractals Section?

Badsue ( ) posted Thu, 03 November 2016 at 2:18 PM · edited Sat, 05 October 2024 at 8:14 PM

I just see that there's no Fractals Section anymore. Why that and where should we upload fractals from now on? As a fractalist, I feel like being disqualified in some way.

Boni ( ) posted Thu, 03 November 2016 at 3:30 PM

Alas, the Fractals section had no images for a long time and was retired. You can use Other Apps, Unusual Subjects ... and 2d. We are sorry for the inconvenience. We were getting a little over-run with a variety of galleries that were not being used.

Bull!... To say it had no Images for a long time is a Flat Out Lie!....I'm a Fractalist and Posted here a lot used to be the Fractals Moderator and know all the Fractalists here or that used to be here this is why Rendo is Dying they don't Care about anything that's not Poser or Daz or anyone who doesn't generate $$$ for Rendo. One more reason to make DeviantArt my only Home at least they Care about ALL Art not just one type, No Fractals section No Reason for me or any Fractalist to come to Renderosity at all, Makes me Sick

And FYI Fractals is NOT a specific Application it is a Genre of Art there are 100s of Fractal applications and as a avid user of many of them I do not appreciate being told a complete Genre of Art namely Fractals is Not Valid form of Art as I have dedicated over a Decade of my Life to furthering the Art Form, it's a Slap in the Face....I'm never coming back to this place again this is so stupid...........

From what I understand, the statistics show that there hasn't been a fractal image uploaded for over 80 days. This is the criteria we use. Please if you want this gallery returned you might want to get a group of enthusiasts like yourself to add their names and show that there is an interest. This is not written in stone, but we merely see what has happening as far as activity goes. I meant no disrespect as I am not knowledgeable in the genre of fractals. If there is still an interest ... we will gladly return the gallery.

Hi Lenord and Badsue. Kristi will see this and hopefully reconsider if the members are objecting. It is not easy to make decisions based on statistics alone and from what Boni pointed out it appears this was the method used.

Boni posted at the same time LOL. Either way if the Fractals artists want the gallery just say so on this thread.

The over 80 days pertains to comments and Threads in the Fractals Forum not the Gallery, get it together there are Fractals uploaded every day I know because I look at them all. I have site mailed Kristi already, thinking about deleting my Gallery of 1,500 or so images, mostly Fractals but am holding off on that for now but made it pretty clear that getting rid of Fractals is a Big Mistake IMO......Don't know how many Fractilists will speak up, hopefully they will when the feel the Slap in the Face, most of them don't talk much but everyone still on Staff that knows me knows when I perceive a Wrong has been done I let everyone know about it.

80 days for a subject and art form that helped established 3D Computer Graphics, Modern Video Games, 3D texture and shader basics, the understanding of natural forms and possibly even the very building blocks of the universe itself? Wow.

Head ===> Desk.... ... ... ... ...

Suggesting that members beg for this gallery section to be reinstated seems to be slightly insulting and even a little patronising in my opinion, as it's really quite hard to understand why it was removed in the first place? Maybe explaining this a little more would help, as the reason given so far don't really seem to add up?

The Fractal gallery was definitely active, Renderosity magazine less then two months ago reviewed a fractal artist here: Interview with Renderosity artist claude19

There have been 100's of fractal images uploaded to the galleries since the start of October from a large number of site members: https://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/?search=Fractal&date_start=10/01/2016&date_end=11/04/2016

If the gallery is reinstated, which in my opinion it should be, will all of the old images automatically be repopulated to it? It would be a shame if that wasn't the case as members spent a lot of time and work building that gallery space and it has been a part of the Renderosity art gallery structure for well over a decade.

Never mind Leonard at least you still have a whole gallery section devoted to the photos of other peoples Furkids...

Here is a short video about fractals for those who aren't really sure what all the fuss is about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tN_eNQFcv5E

I am not even sure that the gallery section was intended for removal so maybe we shouldn't be getting ahead of ourselves here. There are many forums that are unused and IMO need to either be combined under one banner or if the software is no longer in development/used ditched. Takes half an hour to scroll down on the forum home page. If the members were actively using the gallery then Renderosity would have had no reason to have removed the section and could be a mistake. I am investigating now.

Well, I'm a little confused, as I just checked and the Fractals gallery is still open with thousands of fractals available for viewing.

I think it's only the Fractals forum that's no longer functioning, or is that what the OP was referring to with Fractals Section? If that's so, then I misunderstood, as I thought the OP was referring to the gallery.

Thank you for the quick work with restoring the fractal gallery, it's very much appreciated!

I'm in Germany so missed the discussion while I've been sleeping.;) Thanks to all who commented and helped getting the Fractals section in the GALLERY back. I've been talking about the gallery indeed and not about the forum. I'm one of those who don't have the time to talk much here, so didn't use the forum often, but, like all the many fractal artists here, want and use a special gallery section for uploading my fractal works. Boni's first comment clearly stated that she was talking about "no fractal images" for more than 80 days, which is ridiculous of course. One look into the Fractals gallery whould have shown. Anyway, the problem seems to be solved now - the fractal gallery right now showing 20,000 of 150,716 results, lol.

Anyone who that doesn't know what Fractals are look at a Flower or a Tree a Cloud or up at the Night Sky. Fractals are Natures Architecture saying Fractals shouldn't exist is saying Art shouldn't exist period. The saying I always use is "If Mathematics is considered the Language of the Universe(as most Scientists agree) doesn't that make Mathematically derived Art (Fractals) the Universal Artform?" I am glad Fractals are back I would have hated to see so many beautiful pieces relegated to obscurity here.

Hello,

Kristi and I were going through the galleries and forums the other day and locking ones that were inactive. This one must have been locked by accident. Very sorry that this happened and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience that this caused.

Hopefully you can find it in your heart to forgive us. 😔

Ahhh, OK. I guess I missed when it was down. Thanks for getting it back up, as I have a number of fractal renders there, though I haven't done any in a long time, so I probably should do some more. 😉

It was the fractal forum that caught my eye in 2004. I was hooked! Back then the forum was filled with people who were not only interested in fractals, but in forming friendships with other fractal lovers. Sadly, it seems to have died a quietly ignored death. I still create fractal art and post in the Fractal gallery. I'm glad its back.

rhol_figament ( ) posted Fri, 04 November 2016 at 6:52 PM

I luv fractal art and all the fractal artist who have inspired me here at Rendo. Mandelbulb3D is my current favorite as the worlds you can discover are endless. There are always new images being posted every day, thank goodness, and I hope all the fine fractal artists I enjoy will continue to post their amazing work. I have seen so many good artists leave this site over the years, for one reason or another, would hate to loose any more. I don't browse the forms too often, sorry, because many of the artists are happy to PM you with info if you ask them. That's one of the reasons I still like it here at Rendo, so hopefully the Fractal Gallery will continue to thrive... :)

KristiS ( ) posted Fri, 04 November 2016 at 8:31 PM

The fractal forum was supposed to be locked, not the gallery.

I reopened it yesterday and deeply apologize for the inconvenience.

I'm glad that the fractal gallery is back.
Due to the bad weather, you can also go back to a fractal program.
