Subject: Simulations don't work in Poser Pro11...... :(

GRENDEL1 ( ) posted Wed, 21 September 2016 at 1:55 PM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 4:18 AM

Does anyone else have this problem? Simulations will calculate normally, but at the end of the simulation it resets as if no simulation has taken place. This happens regardless of which cloth object, or which target is used. This happens every time, and has been a problem since the beginning of 11.

I've had it less with update 5. Before that, though, I was getting it once in a while but more apt to lose the simulation as soon as I did something else. Saving the scene as soon as the simulation was done helped. I also spawn a morph of the simmed cloth because I will sometimes lose the sim later.

Definitely update to the latest service release. An issue where the .ABC cache files were saving incorrectly was addressed. That's likely the issue you are seeing.

I have the same problem, I buy poser11 pro and it's the same problem with the cloth room. I have poser 11 simple and this appeared with the last up date. Smith micro don't help and don't say nothing, I'm a little desperate mainly because I created dynamic clothing and here I am down. :(

Me too, I had this recently. I did a renistall and it seems to be ok... I didn't test it enough though because I moved back to PP 2014 for a while.

There was a nother thread here where someone explained how to go back to a previous version (before the service release). It seems as if the forum has been changed and all the old Poser discussion threads are gone though?

So if someone could post this again thing it might be very useful to severeal people here. :D Hope someone knowledgeable sees this...

nerd: I hope they are working on a solution for the next service release/update? Or was it fixed already? I got the problem when I installed the SR that came out in August or September... is there a new one out now?

Hey Tipol: I was just given a tip at Facebook by someone who also had the problem. They had contacted Smith Micro and SM suggested to save the secene just before simulating. Apparently this worked. So this might be something to try. :)

ah this is an interesting idea. It is true that the old scenes recorded with a simulation seem to work even if we change the pose. I'm going to try. Thank you. :)

This is something I do all the time, even when I started playing in Poser 9's Cloth Room. I got in the habit back when I started with Poser 5, and had problems with rendering a scene after I had spun some dials. I started saving my scenes first so I wouldn't have to set them up again when this would happen. I guess it became a habit, because I do it all the time no matter what software I'm using, or what function I'm about to do. Save often, and you'll have less of a problem.

I contacted SM about this and it's a known problem. The workaround is to do a "Save As..." before running the sim, and it should work fine. You don't have to keep doing "Save As..." every time. The problem, I suppose, has to do with having the sim write to a nonexistent file.

OK, that reminds me of a similar problem, though with MS Word, where one of the attorneys in the office I worked at had typed over 40 pages and then seemed to lose it. Since it was on a Sunday, and I was the only techie there that day, I went to his office to see if I could find it, and after spending 15 minutes looking everywhere I could think of, I asked him where he had saved it initially, on the firm's network, or locally on his hard drive. When he told me he hadn't saved it, I got up from his desk, turned around and started walking for the door. I told him to start retyping, and he gave me a dirty look, and asked what good was I, as he had spent all day typing it, and Word was supposed to save automatically, every so often.

I told him that's true, but if you don't save it even once, Word isn't a mind reader, and won't know where to save it automatically, every so often. He didn't like that, but some software apps work that way.
