Subject: Figure Shaders script at a testing point

RobynsVeil ( ) posted Sun, 20 November 2016 at 1:33 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 12:45 PM

Hi all... just a quick post to let folks know I've got this little script (ain't nothin' much) that paints a very basic shader on certain Poser figures imported into Blender. More of a proof-of-concept thing at this point than anything:

https://github.com/robinboncoeur/FigureShaders

I'd totally HUGEly appreciate folks having a go. I realise the README is a bit long-winded, but Blender and Python are fairly picky about where stuff is located and sentence-structure, so I'm trying to make sure 'i's are dotted and 't's are crossed so the thing has a half-way chance of working right.

Anyway, let me know if you've had a go and it works, or if you did and it didn't or if you had any ideas how to make it better (totally open to those) ! Thanks muchly! 😄

I use the MDD exporter to import Poser figures and animation into Blender, One of the more annoying things is (especially with Cycles) is I have to add all the materials manually, and for some reason it likes to invert the grey-scale maps (Solution is in the node editor to add an invert color)

Is your script compatible with the MDD exporter, because the built in export options for Poser will only export "figures" not props into Blender.

I haven't actually tried that exporter, so I'm not sure what it yields in terms of figure in Blender. This script uses the skin, eye and whatever texture files to paint a shader on your figure. There's a lot yet to do, but so far, it works. Which OS? Windows? should work. Please let me know ... and if you run into dramas, please let me know what they are. 🙂

The MDD exporter will export the materials in a local images folder in the same directory that you want to export the figure and the animation. There is a learning curve, I can help you save a lot of frustration by teaching the basics. I use Windows 7 64 bit intel core i5
