Little Sam was literally jumping around the room today. He got an XBox, which is what he wanted, and a Scalextric slot racing set. Ilona got a LalaLoopsy doll, various interactive pets and an electronic farting game. Yes, really. O.o

I would really love an electronic farting game; but my wife says I'm already in my third childhood as I approach 80. What is it about farting that has always had me laughing hysterically? I do have a little battery-driven fart machine ... and created this: http://www.fergusoncreations.co.uk/pickup/noisesoff.mov which might amuse you all ...
Welllll...
Considering Christmas (taken as a whole) was conflated with the general "End of year/please come back, Mr Sun" festivals, and St Nicholas is/was part of Northern tradition, and Rudolph got tacked onto that, I guess it's as good a link as you're likely to get.
Then again, I've never seen, nor heard of, that animation. Truth is, I haven't a clue why.

As I understand it the song "Rudolf the Red Nosed Raindeer" was written for and recorded by Gene Autry in the 30's ("Frosty the Snowman" was written the following year specifically as a follow up on the success of "Rudolf...") and the Animation came out in 1966 as a special here in the US and became an instant classic among the kids. Now this is trivia I heard on tv within the last couple of weeks and nothing I verified with research. Oddly enough as with before ... "Frosty ..." came out the following year again as a tack-on to "Rudolf ..." with other similar animations that followed.

The original Rudolph animation came out in 1964. I was six. I did find out a bit of trivia about the classic though. Did you know the whole Burl Ives Snowman scenes were added on later? I never noticed in all the time I'ved watched the show, but the snowman never interacts with anyone in the story. The closest he comes is when he mentions that he sent Hermey and Cornelious out after Rudolph.
Aha! Now I know the one you mean. It was the Burl Ives bit that made the penny drop. Didn't know his bit was added on.
Anyhow, it's shown over the Christmas period here, now and again.

Just finished wrapping the little darlings Christmas pressies, seeing as they wouldn't go to sleep.
Ho ho fucking ho. :D
Everyone - and I do mean everyone, even if we don't always see eye to eye - have a safe and happy time. Be good to each other and have lots of fun.
As a side note: A close friend died a few weeks ago, after a long drawn out illness. Tony was a great friend to us and loved our children as if they were his own. Kerry, his widow, is as much a part of our family as makes no difference. As you can guess, she is really having a hard time of it now. Please spare a moment for her and others who are having a tough time.
Otherwise, have tons of fun!
Whether you are devout or secular, Christian, Jew, Muslim, Zoroastrian, Buddhist, Shinto, Wiccan or any other faith (or lack thereof) have a happy time and be (in the immortal words of Bill and Ted) Excellent To Each Other!
