Subject: difference between items with ordinary vs. extended license purchases

vxg139 ( ) posted Sat, 18 February 2017 at 11:42 AM · edited Tue, 07 January 2025 at 8:10 PM

Hi,

could someone explain the main difference between purchasing items under "normal" vs. "extended" license? I have read the extended license details in renderosity and I just don't see any difference between the extended and a typical license agreement when using the product....

Cheers

Let me get our copyrights/license agent to come in and explain this to you fully. 😄

Though as funny you might find it, it is clear that such sellers are looking for a greater profit margin. Good luck to them..... on my part though, when I am looking for merchandise, I just ignore any items that has "extended license" branded on it....

Cheers

I do the same, I understand that some want to use the products in gaming and I therefore understand a need for the extended license but there was always the option to have a normal product. As it stands I am not going to use any of the extended license provisions (assuming there are some) so I am not going to pay extra for a product when I am not going to make use of the 'extra'. I really do not understand the vendor not making it available in a normal license version it hardy increases their workload to any degree, this way they just lose sales.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

The Extended License allows for the files purchased here to be distributed inside of a different, non-competing product (like gaming). Because game engines require the 3d model (or a form of it) to be distributed as part of the game. The "Standard License" does not allow re-distribution.

Thanks for the clarification which Iiswhat I imagined it was but that does not make it right. Still think the vendors are missing a trick by not having a standard license version for those not into games as the product itself is identical, still it is the vendors choice if he/she decides they want to do that and risk losing sales.

Nearly all of the Extended License products in our store have Standard License products also. If there is an Extended License product you see that you would like to have in a Standard License, but do not see one, please let us know. We will be glad to locate it for you, or get approval to create a Standard License product for you.

Thanks!

That certainly used to be the case but the trend is in the apposite direction. I do not want to single out any particular vendor but a quick look at 'Whats New' will quickly list a number of items where no regular license product is available or is not listed in the vendors store. I am afraid that some thing is going to have to be rather special for me to go to the bother of having to raise requests for regular license products when there are other products and other web sites where I can spent my hard earned cash and be using the product almost immediately without having to jump through extra hoops.

Thank you for your time and your offer and there could be the odd item when I would be happy to request a regular license variant but I am afraid, for the reasons given, it is likely to be the exception rather than the rule.

The ones where no standard license is available are usually low-poly models that are probably unsuitable for most renders. I'm not sure how much of a market there would be for a character that only has one set of clothes and is not built on standard models. There are some out there specifically for background characters, but those usually at least come with some way to modify the appearance of the figure. Outside of gaming, they really have no use.

Thank you for the explanation, that makes much more sense.
