Challenge to learn and pure enjoyment...also a bit of an ego when we show others. For me, unfortunately, I like to show others and see there reaction. Art is a part of my soul, it reflects who I am, so, others who view my work learn who I am, if they accept the creation, they accept a part of me. In a world that accepts very little of who you are, or cares if you even exist, this is a HUGE benefit for me. Sorry, it sounds so vain. Sharen
Drawing and creating is in my blood I'm pleased to say. I was lucky that I grew up watching a great artist, my grandfather, who use to do the most amazing portraits in pencil and charcoal. He tried to teach me that the greatest thing you can have to learn to be an artist, was to have a compulsive attention to detail...compulsive being the key word! I still draw quite a bit with pencil and paper, nearly every digital image I create, starts off as a rough drawing. It is something I have to do, else my 3D image does not seem complete ;) I'm afraid my wife likes drawing also...but this time it's my money Bill ;) Great question Jody...thanks :) Cheers

Still rather new here, but will butt in on the conversation. I am one of those artistic handicapped people. It is quite incapacitating... to have a rich imagination with no talent to express it can be very, very depressing. Then I found PSP (paintshop pro) a whole new world opened up. Still couldn't paint, but I could take my camera and take a photo then manipulate the hell out of it and create something. I was in my glory. Then... I found 3d, Poser... Terragen etc (soon to be Vue) This is such a release for me. I still can't get quite what I have in my head onto the screen, but I know the possibility is there if I keep working at it. And if I can make a little money along the way (to pay for these programs I have to have ~G~) Great... but even if there was no money, I'd still be here.
"It is quite incapacitating... to have a rich imagination with no talent to express it can be very, very depressing" MS Outlaw, don't under-estimate yourself. I have not met a single person yet without talent...it can just take a bit long sometimes to find it, and then learn to use it. Keep pluging away...the only person you have to please is yourself :) Cheers

I always have been fascinated by computer graphics, ever since the first pixar movies and Tron before that. For years, I have been envious of SGI workstations and images generated on high end machines. Now that it has become accessible to mere mortals like us, I can finally use computers to compensate for my lack of time and technique. I see Poser, Vue and such as a perfect way to use computers and focus on the core of an image : the idea, the story behind it, the imagination. I don't have enough time to learn how to paint or draw, and even then, I wouldn't have enough time to carry on real painted work. Computer graphics are great for that. Since I started to 'draw' seriously (last december) and especially since I discovered Renderosity, it turned into a drug : I 'see' images and I just have to make them, or I become irritable :) I feel a lot better when an image is being finished ... until the next one.
Rich that head of the creature in your drawing has been bugging me since you posted it...but finally I can remember who it reminds me of. Apart from the pointy horn, it's a dead ringer for K-9 out of Dr Who (Tom Baker era) LOL! Cheers

Because I can't "not draw"! I also write and dance - for years ballroom and latin but the last couple of years almost solely Argentine tango, which does take up a lot of what was formerly penk and ink time, but these days mostly digital. Before I "grew up" - about 45 - I was concerned greatly about whether or not I was "good". I gave that up at some point = can't remember when - and just do it because frankly it makes me happy. Have had enough positive feedback evidence to justify it but, even without that, it is what I like to do. Larry F
hrmmmmm..... I just try to have fun? I'm not much of an artist.. I used to sketch cartoons and the occasional life study. mostly hands and faces heh heh.. and none from reality. I guess the desire was always there but not the talent... I"m of the can't draw a straight line with a T-Square and ruler class... but I can repair almost anything mechanical 8 ) most of what I do in 3D is from encouragement of friends and strangers that became friends.. without the kind words.. I probably wouldn't have continued to where I am now... heh heh like I"m anywhere at the moment artistically 8 ) ah well.. CHeers and keep on havimg fun 8)

An interesting question came up at my writer's circle the other week, somebody asked, why do you write? The answers from everybody was different, some, like me, put pen to paper as a way of expanding their mind and imagination. Others were writing purely to make money. I got thinking as to why I use Vue to create images. I guess my reasons is because they compliment my writing, a picture in Vue might send me off on a writing quest, or vice versa. So anyway, for a slightly different thread from usual. Why do you 'draw'? best wishes Jody
