Subject: Problem loading V4 Characters

kimreb55th ( ) posted Sun, 02 July 2017 at 5:46 AM · edited Wed, 30 October 2024 at 10:57 AM

Hi Everyone

Please help before I tear out what little hair I have left. To cut a long story short, I am an in the process of trying to get back into 3D and am currently reloading all of my content and learning Poser, which is now my program of choice.

I am finding that some of the purchased characters for V4, the morphs are loading fine but others are not. All the head morphs load but I am finding that some body morphs are only loading down to the waist while others are not loading at all. I have all the V4 morphs required to load these characters and have even checked by downloading Daz Studio where all of these characters load as they are supposed to.

I am using Poser Pro 2014 if that makes any difference and would really appreciate some guidance as I am obviously missing something but don’t know what.

Assuming that you did initialise V4 after loading the morph packages. We need to verify if this process was performed, otherwise morphs may not work correctly, if not at all. Also, which OS are you currently using and where did you install Poser and related content? This may present another problem if you used the old convention of installing everything into Program Files folder under the most current builds of Windows.

How did you load V4 and the V4 morph sets into Poser, did you do this manually? You may need to initialise V4 for each morph set. If you load V4 and then inject the morphs ++ for instance, do you have all the full body morphs available? If not it is an initialisation problem. There is a batch file you need to run if this is the problem, although I've always found it easier to use the DAZ install manager as this does the initialisation for you. Another possibility, are you loading the morph sets V4++ etc. before loading the character morphs? I don't use DAZ studio so don't know if DAZ studio does this for you. (Some very old V3 etc. content does this for you in Poser but I haven't come across any V4 content that does for the dialled morphs, i.e. those that use the morphs ++ set or similar.)

Right. Hands up, I hadn’t initialised V4 as I didn’t know that I had to, as that was all done automatically in Daz Studio. Having now initialised V4 it still makes no difference.

I am running Windows 7 64bit and yes Poser was loaded to the default programs folder. My runtime is not in the default location and is on a separate drive in my computer. The files were loaded manually using 7-Zip. I have tried downloading Daz install manager and reloading V4 and all the morphs to the default location on my C drive and this still does the same thing. I have even tried to initialise this version of V4 with no success.

Since upgrading from WinXP Pro to Win7 Pro, I no longer install ANY software into C:Program Files which allows me to install elsewhere, be it 2D software or 3D software.

I see you mention your Runtime is on another drive, which "should" take care of that issue, and is why I've noticed a lot of newer versions of my 3D apps install content to the My Documents folder on a Windows PC. I don't think Poser itself should have any problem running under Program Files, but you never know.

Thanks. I will try uninsalling Poser and reload it outside the programs file. Will let you know what happens.

Thank you everyone, it is now sorted, I deleted Poser and reinstalled it outside of the program file. Reinitiated V4 in my runtime and still no joy. Reinitiated the one that I downloaded using the Daz install manager and that didn’t work either. In the end, I reloaded V4 and the morphs in my default Poser pro 2014 runtime on my C drive and everything is now working properly.

Thanks again from one very happy and not quite bald bunny.

Glad you managed to get it sorted, it seems to be a problem that catches people out on a regular basis so you are not alone.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.
