Subject: Custom Characters. Your Favorite

Boni ( ) posted Fri, 07 July 2017 at 9:02 AM · edited Sat, 01 February 2025 at 12:00 PM

We all have a great library of characters we've collected ... and we tweak them for our own needs. What character have you created for yourself that you have a special fondness for. This could be a totally new character you made with morphs and dials ... or a commercial character that you've customized. As usual I will start.

James1.png

His name is James, but his gender is fluid ... he is part elf, part fairy and part wizard.

My favorite is usually the one I am using at any given moment although I was particularly pleased with how this character turned out.

The character is called Caoimhe and is based on Dawn SE, so there are few SE dial spins along with a mixture of different Dawn morphs from the many commercial packs. The texture is essentially Master skin resource 7 - Dawn from 3Dream although the eyes (and a few other subtleties) are from Oriana by fabiana. There are a few other tweaks done in Paint Shop Pro and the eyes materials are modified to give real reflections, all credit goes to Bagginsbill in this regard. All in all a real Frankenstein character but I like to think she is a little more attractive than most portrayals of Frankenstein.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

All my custom sculpts are based either on my weightmapped V3:

https://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/?thread_id=2864342

...or on my weightmapped David 3:

https://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/?thread_id=2864254

For even more variety and (clothing) convenience, I also created Poser weightmapped versions of the 16.000 poly LoRez (LOD) V4 and M4 meshes as well as Kids-4

And if "push comes to shove", I also have "Poser-native" versions of Genesis 1 and 2 I can use.. (No intention to ever use Genesis 3 & 8 in Poser. I strongly dislike their native rigging and mesh layout and I am boycotting Poser for the time being, so there will be no Poser 11 upgrade for me anytime soon.)

I like them both and nice to see figures this old still showing they can be of use today.

Of course original figures count. I just wanted to let this be open for all levels of users.

I believe the team that weight mapped V4 started on M4 but was it was never finished. I would certainly use a weight mapped M4

I made a custom character for Dawn immediately after her release, including some rigging improvements:

Danielle for Dawn

HW didn't allow me to distribute her as a freebie, so I lost all interrest in that figure.

Miss B ( ) posted Mon, 10 July 2017 at 10:34 PM

That's too bad Joe, as I like the look of Danielle. Unfortunately, I don't know how to get INJ/REM files done, and I haven't upgraded my DS past 4.0, so would have no idea how to even set her up in the most current version of DS.

Didn't Poser make some of there characters open source ? If they did then couldn't you release your versions of those Poser characters for free ?

I stopped working with the Poser native characters a decade ago. I just couldn't get the results out of them I needed. The old ones were quite decent for their age, but the more recent ones are just not worth the effort.

Here's a few I did in the P4 to P8 area:

A reworked P4 "Dork" and P4 Posette/NEA

A young boy based on the "Dork" mesh:

A Posette morph:

JoePublic : All that talent not being used to full potential ,Just seems so very wrong.

So if you want to ? I'll make these meshes open sores and you can terrorize them all you want.

Only rule is don't remove my name from them.

I have been using Tempesta3D's 'Jenny' for Dawn as a go to ever since I got her. If only there was a morph to turn off her nipples...

Wonder Woman Dawn.jpg

Rendered in Firefly in Poser 10. I made all of the costume, and used DAZ's Amarseda hair on Jenny.

Three of my preferred figures with custom morphs...

Aiko 3 with Sarsa and Thorne's "Mila" enhanced with Beth Capsces' "Kioki" morphs

Lady LittleFox's "Micah" with Beth Capsces' "Furries for Micah" morphs

...and...

Lady LittleFox's "Melody" with Beth Capcses' "Furries for Melody" morphs

If she had offered them, I would have used Beth Capcse morphs for Kirwyn's "Boston Terrier" and MeshBox's "Mr. Puggles" (whom I call here "Mr. Derps and "Pugsy Malone").
