Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 02 4:55 pm)
Well, I tried selecting the Ground in the Properties and tried unchecking the Visible checkbox. I knew about that. That does not take care of it. The render still comes out with a color around all the figures. Will the Display-->Guides-->Ground Plane work in making the Construct invisible? I'll also look into the Control+G. I did go to the Material Room and The Construct folder. There were various colors and options for it, but nothing I clicked on made the Construct invisible.
How are you exporting your renders? Are you exporting in JPG format, or PNG format? I ask because JPGs don't have an Alpha channel, but PNGs do. I always save in PNG format when I don't want a background in the render, so I can composite my character(s) with a background of my choice during postwork in Photoshop. You can't do that if you export your renders in JPG format.

Go into the hierarchy editor, select Ground, and right-click and delete it.
OK, thank you very much. After deleting Ground from the Hierarchy Editor, I can get no background at all if I export in PNG format. I can't, however, export in PSD format, but that doesn't matter.

Hi, you can export in psd format and if you use PS, IMHO, you should. The image will come in with a layer mask and the background should be transparent. You can then add all the backgrounds you like on another layer. It's great.
Well, I'm using AffinityPhoto. I have used Photoshop in the past. Quit because of what Adobe did with subscriptions. Anyway, I can still get layers and use Custom 1, 2, 3, etc., as options, when rendering in Poser. And I can add backgrounds and various other things on layers in AffinityPhoto.
Hi. To get the transparency when using a PSD file in Affinity Photo. On the Channels panel go to the very bottom where it says Alpha, right mouse click and select - Load to Background Alpha.
I'm not a fan of the construct and prefer other environments and domes - so I have replaced the Poser construct object in my runtime with an empty object, Poser doesn't complain as it still thinks it's loading it lol

Okay. I'm using an older non subscription version of PS, 5. I understand why you switched. I also get why Adobe changed to subscription as they were getting pirated so much. I'm glad you were able to work it out. It's so much fun.
I quit PS after version 5.1 because of the Java version I had to retain.
For some reason I can't figure out, I'm one of a very small group of folks who obtained their PP11 with the empty background setup. Since I was so used to that setup with my older versions of Poser, I couldn't understand why folks kept saying The Construct is the new Ground, because I didn't have it when I opened a new scene. All I had was Andy, whom I deleted and saved a new Startup Scene without him.
I did find The Construct in the Primitives folder, but that was giving me problems if I wanted to render with it, and if you load that Construct into your scene, it doesn't replace the old Ground plane.
THEN I did some exploring and found there's an Alternate Construct folder in my Runtime > Libraries > Scene > Poser11 Environments folder. I think that's the one that most folks I know were seeing when they opened their P11/PP11 for the first time, which DOES replace the old Ground plane so you don't have both in your scene.

That doesn't seem to work for me. I select the Alpha at the bottom of the Channels panel. I'm on a Mac, but Control-->Click should do it. But, nothing happens. Do I need to select all of that background color or something? Right now, when I Control-->Click, I do not see any options appearing.

Oh, that's good to know about the Alternate Construct folder in the Environments folder, is it? I haven't seen that. I'll look for it.
I didn't know it was there, as I've never gone through the contents of Poser's Runtime > Libraries > Scene folder before. This time I was just curious enough to try and find where the Construct most folks I know say was in the scene every time they loaded a new scene in P11/PP11 was located. I didn't think the Construct in the Primitives library was the one because it didn't replace the old plain Ground plane, which is what most folks I know said they no longer had when they loaded a new scene to work on.
I knew it had to be somewhere, but couldn't think of where, until I just happened to open the Scene library and saw it there. There are two other scenes in that folder, but the Alternate Construct just made sense as what most folks found when they first got P11/PP11 when it first came out. This was something new, because older versions of Poser (like my Poser9) didn't have it.

Hmm. I don't have a Mac to check only only PC sorry - but I re-enabled the Construct to make sure this is working as intended, and tried it in Affinity Photo 1.5 general release and the 1.6 Beta .....
All I do is load a figure, clothing and props into the scene - I don't use a background scene or it won't have a transparent background.
Then I Hide the construct and Render.
Save as a PSD file
Open in Affinity Photo - Click on the Channel Tab - Right Click on Alpha at the bottom of the list - Select Load to Background Alpha
The background color is removed and replaced with the transparency checker board
I can then add layers and paint behind the rendered image as I described above.

In Poser 11 Pro, is there a way to make "the Construct" invisible, so that just the figures can be saved as an image? That way, I could add my own backgrounds in Photoshop or a similar application.
