Subject: Trying to register Blacksmith3D V7Pro on a stand-alone Graphics Machine

consumer573 ( ) posted Fri, 01 September 2017 at 9:33 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 11:42 PM

I'm not sure where I should be writing this; I also entered my issue on the Blacksmith3D forum https://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/?thread_id=2916509 But I see it has been a few days since there was any activity there and I'm hoping to get this installed and running today.

I bought the upgrade, Blacksmith3DV7Pro, during the sale yesterday. I've installed it on my graphics machine, but it defaults to the now more typical assumption that that machine has internet access, which it does not for safety reasons. It accepts the registration code but fails when it tries to acess the internet.

What is the process for registering Blacksmith3D on a Firewalled stand-alone graphics machine (Win7 64bit). Thank you.

Hello,

We answered in the B3D forum, but to wanted to make sure you know that our software requires an Internet connection for registration and occasionally after that for check-ins or it will not work. If you cannot allow an internet connection for the software to work when we will need to refund your purchase. Please let us know what you would like to do.

Best Regards.

It is possible I could arrange a one-shot of internet access as long as it went directly to the proper server. But to have it automatically die after that is a deal breaker.

I'm frankly surprised that Blacksmith hadn't considered the people who are increasingly firewalling their important machines so as not to have to deal with viruses and malware. There is too much invested in these machines to put them at risk.

Most software I know of these days has a means of allowing users to work offline, even if they expect most to use the same machines for internet access and say their software needs internet access. This is the first time I've encountered software that absolutely won't work in any fashion without a connection.

I do not buy software that has a kill switch.

I have Blacksmith 5 operational, and I had Blacksmith 6 waiting for a recent computer upgrade but since 7 came out just as I did that I thought that would be better.

If there is no way in the forseeable future of running offline I will probably need a refund. That machine is simply not allowed to connect to the internet. Too bad because I really liked version 5 except I thought the interface was a bit rough.

And, if I ask for a refund, I want to make it clear that I will need a refund, please, to Paypal and my credit card. No Store credit on this. I'm on a budget and really need those funds back if it's not going to be for the expected investment in new software.
