I've been out of the loop for 8 years and last I used was Victoria 4.2. Now I come back and see all this genesis stuff and I'm really confused on the evolution of particularly Daz characters. Could someone be so kind as to explain the version history and what works in Poser or Studio only?

To put it simply ... Victoria 5 through 8 work only with the DAZ genesis figures ... 1 - 8. (Don't try math it won't work, Vicki 8 inspired the developers to go from Genesis 3 to Genesis 8, to coincide with V8 and skipped 4-7) Victoria 5 and 6 go with Genesis 1 and 2 respectively and they need the DSON importer (available at DAZ) to work with Poser. Genesis 3 and 8 (Which go with Victoria 7 and 8) have some features that make it more difficult to work in Poser and a free utility here at Renderosity, HERE is a forum dedicated to the utility. These importers/utilies will slow down your system a bit, but many folks swear by them. OF course if you use DS equally then using these figures natively in DS will be much easier. I've put the Poser side of this here, since this is the Poser forum.

There are some tricks to import those into Poser but they are made specifically for Daz Studio. I had a friend who was in a similar boat of just returning and I had to explain the different naming of Generation 4 versus Genesis 1-8. It didn't help that V4 was Gen 4, and V5 referred to as Gen1 (Genesis shortened) in several forums. V8 is Genesis 3. Kind of confusing no? lol I spent about three conversations explaining. I'm kind of surprised there's no official page. A general sort of history of the evolution of characters would be nice. Kind of a flow chart timeline.

Actually, V8 is Genesis 8.

Thanks EClark1894, I didn't even catch that... so no Genesis 4-7? They are just sort of jumping around skipping numbers now? I understand someone wanted to match but that's kind of a big skip there....

Daz3D skipped Genesis 4-7 for the very reason you mentioned ie Victoria 4 is know as generation 4 and a few people already use 'Gen 4' when discussing the Victoria 4 figure - so in an effort to stop the confusion of having a Genesis 4 (Gen 4) they just skipped 4-7 and matched the Victoria 8 character to the Genesis 8 base figure. I'm not a fan of the two name figures but hey I'm not Daz lol....

I suppose it's better than something like V iteration 105215767.8 lol

lol - her evolution is quite complex when you add in that Daz also called the first few generations the Millennium Figures - she must be royalty with such a convoluted naming system haha

Daz abandoned the Millienium name because some customers were calling her "Millie".

People will always use the name or acronym they prefer despite the efforts of companies - Genesis 8 Female Victoria 8 is by nature bound to be shortened.

Michael 8 (M8) has already been dubbed (christened) "Mate" lol

I've been inactive about 4 years ... bewildered by all the above.

I'll be sticking with Poser awhile with all the content I collected. At least i know Victoria's history and what I can use inside Poser.

It's not vicky anymore ,it's genesis . vick ,stef n all are just morphs now.
