Subject: Pose 8 and Windows 10

Arah ( ) posted Tue, 17 October 2017 at 12:14 PM · edited Sun, 09 February 2025 at 4:50 PM

After my main hard drive crashed, I just re-installed my computer with windows 10 and then re-installed poser 8 but now it won't open. I get the "Poser executable file has stopped working" message. does anyone know how this might be fixed? I would really appreciate any help!

If you haven't done so yet, download and install the latest SR for Poser 8.

I downloaded and installed. worked for about 5 seconds longer and than crashed again.

What event ID did you get with the crash? Did you check the log?

I can't get far enough in to check the log. I Open the program, and it immediately crashes.

ThunderStone ( ) posted Thu, 19 October 2017 at 12:11 PM

You don't open the log in poser... it's the Window event log. Troubleshooting begins with viewing the log. Here's where to look for the log: Screenshot1.jpg

ok, thank you! Event ID is 1001

ThunderStone ( ) posted Thu, 19 October 2017 at 3:16 PM

This event indicates that an application crashed. Windows collects whatever information was available related to this failure and saves it in a text file Faultlog.txt. The file is not overwritten but appended to. One can use the fault bucket number to look up the details about this particular problem (as there can be many recorded in that file).

I was wondering if your computer has more than the minimum memory required. Anyway, this is what I came across in my research:

Access violation error 0xC0000005

Error description The 0xC0000005 Access Violation error is quite common among all versions of Windows systems and it is fairly broad as it involves a batch of issues. As a rule, system returns this error code when you run a program that attempts to access the location not assigned for its use. When the error message is closed, usually the software will be closed as well. The error means the software want to use system memory improperly. The error code 0xC0000005 also happens to other situations with different messages such as when you attempt to install system, perform certain function, launch system built-in tools, etc. You may meet one of the following messages when the error occurs: An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated. Exception: access violation (0xC0000005), Address "The application failed to initialize properly (0xC0000005). Click OK to terminate the application"

I'm kind of clueless how to fix that...should I re-install to a different location?

ThunderStone ( ) posted Sat, 21 October 2017 at 7:15 PM

No, what it means is that Poser attempts to use the system memories that it is not authorized to use. The reason I asked how much memory you have on your system is because if you have more than enough memory, Poser won't have to use the system memory. Were you running anything at the same time with Poser? Have you been able to run Poser by itself since then?

Sorry about the delay but I had to go out and just now got in and am checking my emails.

Sorry for the late reply, No I've not run anything significant except for firefox while trying to open poser. And I have 16 gb of Ram.

Yes, I am, I can only conclude that maybe poser 8 and Windows 10 are not good companions?

ThunderStone ( ) posted Fri, 27 October 2017 at 2:54 AM

Perhaps it was a fluke.
