Subject: What Happened to this Community?

No matter what I search for, what criteria, I feel like I am on PornHub! No wonder this place is dying. Nudity for the sake of nudity, not for the sake of art and it is VERY apparent, blatant and offensive! Oh well, it was always here, but it has become so saturated. Am I wrong, or am I right?

We do try to monitor all nudity and make sure it is not pornographic in nature will some slip thru the cracks yes and any image that is of such a nature you can report and we will look at it and if it is judged by the team to be in violation of our TOS it will be removed and the creator will be warned and if need be banned from the community. Also you can screen out all nudity with in your preferences to avoid viewing anything you may find offensive. This perhaps does not fully answer your issue but we do listen and try to have the options in place to cater to everyone.

Since there's a discussion on nudity, is there a way to block it on your activity feed? I have nudity blocked for the gallery but if I subscribe to someone and they post a nude and flag it as they should, I still see it.

Hello RedPhantom

I do not know if that is possible but I will make an admin aware of this to see if it is at all possible

I am not against nudity as an art form, so I do not wish to block it. The issue I have, is people just using nudity willy nilly and without any other purpose, but to show off scantily clad people. I just got a bit heated up and annoyed, so I thought about it first, before I even posted this topic. I didn't want to offend anyone, yet I feel offended and cannot really do much about it.

So,...I just went to the genre, Flowers and Plants - I mean, it's flowers and plants, so you aren't going to see much nudity and what is there - First page has an elven women in panties, standing in her garden! Why? where is the art in this? What is the purpose of an elven lady in panties? Shouldn't she be in her over-alls, with a couple garden tools in her pockets?

As the saying goes art is in the eyes of the beholder I can not answer what motivates individual artist to put into scenes some may do it thinking it will get their art seen more I do not know we moderators and coordinators can only monitor to make sure things do not violate the TOS. I fully empathize with you and understand where you are coming from one of the reasons I hardly even visit deviant art any longer where even with set categories members still upload things to categories that have nothing to do with the image being uploaded which is a bit of a pet peeve but I digress as I said we are limited to what the TOS says as to our guide like. I know this does not help your issue but we hear you and understand the point you are making

After nine years of a core membership on Deviant, I finally let it run out because of the stuff being posted.

I never became a member at dA simply because the name of the site turned me off. That doesn't mean I've never been there, but only once in a while, and usually following a link to a tutorial. Otherwise, I have no use for that site, and I'm NOT a prude, as I've seen nude renders that don't offend me, but just like the OP, I don't want to see it all the time.

Maybe a 21 and up sub section could help for those a little confused on where to post their images that have different genre's in it to include nudes or scantly dressed figures. that way we wont have the infamous Nude chick in high heels standing in the forest renders/pics in the fantasy section just because she's holding a sword.....

I don't have a problem with artistic nudity either. I just want to choose when I see it. I have a large monitor in my living room. Anyone in the room can see what I'm doing. Sometimes that's not a good thing.

A 21 and up or adult category has been suggested before but hence again we run into the issue of interpretation we have some members who like to push the boundries sometimes accidentally sometimes intentionally and creating categories labeled 21 and up or Adult can be interpreted as permission to upload completely inappropriate images in conflict with the TOS I empathize with your comments I truly do and we do our best to monitor the galleries and that images are upload to the proper galleries and have the appropriate flags and we have rewritten the TOS several times just this pass year to make it as clear of what is allowed and what is not. But it does not include wording that would ask why placing a nude or scantly clad person in an image depending on the subject matter of the image. Does a image about flowers need a nude or scantly clad person in it maybe not but that is the artist's vision.

Doesn't bother me one way or the other. Nudity, that is. I've posted my share of nekkid wimmin pics here so I can hardly complain when others do. Simple fact is, a lot of people like to see others sans clothes. Art? Who knows? The debate is a huge can of worms and until someone can come up with a definitive answer to the question "What is Art?", I'll pass it by. I can only speak for my own stuff, and by that measure, I claim some of my nekkid wimmin pics are art. Not because they're technically proficient - most of them aren't that good - not because they say much about the human condition (whatever that is) but because they say exactly what I wanted them to say when I thought of the idea. That's as good a definition - for me - of art as I'll ever get.

I agree that there are many pics that could do with a lot more thought, work, care and attention, or even basic skill... and that includes all of mine but it's not my place to complain if someone's idea of what constitutes a great image isn't the same as mine.

There's been a recent "controversy" here in the UK, where a gallery decided to pull one of Waterhouse's paintings, pretty much because it showed an awful lot of boobies. Bit silly, really, and the painting is now back on display. I have to be clear that I absolutely do not like the Pre Raphaelites at all, and Waterhouse in particular really gets my goat. Artistry instead of art, sentimental, twee, bland, well painted chocolate box type pictures which really grind my gears. But... many people like them and it's not my place to tell them they can't see 'em.

Same goes here at Rendo. I may not like a lot of the stuff here but getting people to make pictures, rather than cutting holes in each other has to be a good thing.
