Subject: Help texturing 3ds files

I downloaded some free models in 3ds format. But when I try to drop a texture on it, it doesn't seem to show except for maybe the color. Objects that I create and use the textures on seem fine. Is there something I need to do out of the ordinary to texture models in this format? Thanks.

hi tkane this may not help.(though i hope it does). i had a simular problem with the drag & dropping of textures in raydream 5.5. i learned that after selecting the model i had to goto the shader section and add the standard blank red texure. after that the model would accept any texure easily. if this not so in you case maybe just simple trial & error with the load options might help. failing this i'd go for a straight out conversion. the program "crossroads" is a fave of mine. hope some thing in this helps dgaff

I tried your method and it seems to work. Just a strange little quirk with RD / Carrara I guess. Thanks for the info.

I also found that converting the 3ds file to a vertex object in Carrara solved the problem. Thanks for putting me on the right track.
