I never install anything Poser or DS automatically..
I have a folder called Installation files and I un-zip each single zip in there.. then I check the content, rename folders and directories depth if need be... then I put the folders in the right Runtime manually! I've done this for 20 years and everything is well organized as it suits me so I can always find whatever I need in seconds! :)

I'm with you Rena. I've always unzipped to a general interim folder, and then manually install to my software Runtime of choice, depending on what the product is.

Well if you want to structure things your own way that's the way to go I guess. But I've installed thousands of products in both Poser and DS and it's rare there are problems with the default setup technically, it can just be hard to find things sometimes. And as for DS DAZ have their DIM installer which is working fine, and there is software which can convert any file into an install file that DIM can handle. It's just a lot of work.

Are you talking about product purchased here, or in general?
I do it with all purchases at all 3D marketplaces, not just here at Renderosity. Like Rena, I'm also fussy about where things go, so I'd rather install it manually to be sure I'll find what I'm looking for.
Of course, when it comes to Python scripts, then I always check the ReadMe, as the vendor usually gives specific instructions as to where everything in the zip goes.
Oh, and as far as DIM goes, I only use that to download my files, because you can do a whole group at a time. I still install manually.

That is like I do it since 2005, it is the best way to be sure everything goes where it is supposed to go. I customized my DS runtime so I can that way put the things in the customized folders and such.
That's what I do also. I have so much content I'd never find it otherwise. I categorize the directories themselves.
So yes, it goes into an temporary folder first, then I place it in the main directory structure. I also keep two libraries, one for what the DIM installs from DAZ, and the other for everything else. It saves massive headaches to have them separate if something messes up the gene pool for a Genesis family.

usually, you just unzip the file to your 'My Daz Studio Library' folder, but that really doesn't work 80% of the time. Something always goes missing, or it just plain doesn't work. What are the extra steps I'm supposed to be taking when unzipping a folder?
