Subject: Finalizing 2D curves in blender 2.8?

dweomer ( ) posted Thu, 20 December 2018 at 10:10 PM · edited Sat, 01 February 2025 at 2:51 AM

The tool is spanking new, so answers may be thin on the ground, but someone may have successfully experimented. Simple Question: How do you finalize a 2d grease pencil curve in Blender 2.8?

I've tried Shift/click and double click, even the menus become inactive when a curve is not finalized.

Just found out mmb does it, but it loses the bezier handles. Leaves lots of dense points to model though.

If anyone knows how to finalize a curve and keep the bezier handles, let me know please.

Hvae not seen many tutorials on curves yet for 2.8 here is one not sure it will be much help since he is using an alpha version and Blender is now in beta but maybe it might offer some answers Blender 2.8 Trial - Modeling With Curves And Exploring Texture Paint In Eevee

Good luck

This one speaks to the problem( only solves it in a round about way, but is still a very good tutorial)

Still looking for a way to work with vector style curves, rather than raster style splines, though.

Currently I wish I had a better answer but since most of the tutorials I know of for 2.8 are featured around many of the new features like EVEE the interface more in depth tool specific like using curves I have not come across yet and it might still be something under development. Have you tried Blender Artist forums I can not post links from there here since it is another forum but might be somewhere you might find some answers as well.

More blender 2.8 2d on youtube than BA. The youtube address above does point to a $59 course that might have it, but 60 bucks for something that will probably change in a month...

BTW, is it TOS illegal here for me to put that in my posts? Been a member for years, but posted very little.

Ah, BA did reference a blender.org developer thread. The bezier curve works like it is supposed to for now( meaning the handles are not preserved, but the spline points are). promotion to a 3d bezier is not that much of a hardship if I want those handles back.

Likely to change in future versions. probably

There is currently a new Blender book on Packt that is about 2.8. Blender Quick Start Guide is the title I got myself a copy and now packt is running a 5 dollar sale on every e-book and video which you can pick up the book which might be useful resource I am not familiar with the creator in the above link you post so can not comment on if the tutorial is worth the investment.
