Subject: Maximum Number of Figures in One Scene

What is the maximum number of character figures you have managed to cram into one scene so far? Whether they be V4s, G2s, Native Poser character figures or even a mix of the bunch you might have in your Runtime?

Awhile back I managed to cram in about 13 or 14 (maybe more) character figures into one big scene. Made up of V4s, Kez's, maybe a Poser native figure or two including a Pauline. Just a challenge I gave to myself and to see to what degree my computer could handle the load.

To the best of my knowledge you can keep going until your computer starts begging you to stop and blows up LOL

define your term "figure". Don't forget that for Poser, almost any asset you add to the scene counts as a "figure" except cameras, lights and poses.

The most I've done is 40 people plus clothing, most of which was conforming and sone figure hair. I seem to remember someone shooting for 100 many years ago. I don't remember if they made it or if they were only counting people or clothing too.

It was about 40 for me ... I remember when I couldn't get 4 figures in the same scene!!! One person did do over 100, many years ago, but they layered the image so many , render ... save as background ... add more render for background ... on and on.

80 fully clothed and textured figures and at least extra 100 props and a landscape, rendered at 4000x4000 pixels. I'm limited to 32Gb of memory, but with machines with more RAM more shouldn't be an issue. Contrary to TheDarkerSideOfArt I had to close everything else running to get it done.

Artwork and 3DToons items, create the perfect place for you toon and other figures!

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

Food for thought.....

I've never managed more than 10 or so figures (fully clothed) - the problem isn't the figures (I can continue to load them), it is the UI in OSX - it gets unresponsive when I get over a few Gb of ram.

ssgbyran a few things that may help you a little, if you haven't already, try these preview settings

Screed might work better for you too. It does for some people. Also, hide everything you aren't working on. Poing figure 5? Hide figures 1-4. and use the box tracking. don't use the fast tracking. I find that slows things down switching back and forth.

No clue how many figures I can have in a scene, wouldn't count on a lot :D However it made me wonder whether it would be possible or interesting for Poser to have an Xref functionality. For those not sure what that is, its basically that you load in a very simple dummy object instead of the real model, but as you render the real model is used instead.

Could be nice for making huge crowds, so you would basically get a very simplified character that you had animated or posed before hand and you could simply place them in the scene, without hurting performance. Would welcome such feature :D

Heh-heh That's what I was careful of so as to not allow to happen but from the other responses in this thread it appears Poser is capable of a whole lot more, Great CPU, lots pf RAM and hefty graphics card are a plus.

I've had 20 fully clothed full resolution figures in a scene, but not that many props in that scene. Also done a scene with 13 dressed full res figures plus 16 lo res figures and plenty of other stuff, Terradome 2 plus about 35 trees. The UI does tend to slow down, but you can always change to one of the other preview render styles which speeds things up. All of this applies to poser 11 and the pro versions of old poser version. Poser 10 was only 32 bit so you could run out of memory and cause poser to crash. Did this when first got poser 10, think I got up to about 30 to 35 nude figures before the crash.
