Subject: Stolen Credit Card Information

I am not sure what is going on but in the last year within a week or two of a purchase here at Renderosity my credit card information has somehow been stolen ending up with me freezing the card and the company replacing it with a new number.... It has not happened with other cards used at other sites.

If it had only happened once I would pass it off but this has happened three times in the past year.... I am going to use a VISA Gift Card from now on for safety

I am sorry you experienced this with your card. We have not had any other complaints or issues about this. We will continue to keep an eye out for issues going forward.

I will only use Visa Gift Cards from now on.... but after three times I'm sure you can understand my feelings

This is exactly why I've only paid with PayPal here the past couple of years, since I had to get not one, but two, new cards back then because they were hijacked.

At that time, it wasn't a problem here at Renderosity, nor a problem at PayPal but, IIRC, we were told that Renderosity uses PayPal even if you choose to pay by credit card, and somewhere in the "bridge" between the two sites, someone was able to hack and get our info.

Using a Visa Gift card, or in my case PayPal, works just fine, as I go directly to PayPal to pay, so that "bridge" between the two isn't in the picture for me anymore.

A "week or two" is a rather large window and not even a certainty; especially if you've made other purchases both online and offline with the card. After they steal your info, it could be 3 days or less when they use it, or it could be a month or longer. The first line of defense is to have international transactions disabled, because those thieve rings typically opt for accessing the money using stolen card clones directly at bank ATMs in foreign countries. Last year in my area there were a large number of people who had their credit/debit card info highjacked, most likely from one of the mini-market gas stations which seemed to be the common denominator. Anyway, they can lift your card info just from you walking past them, or when you make a transaction in the store while they're sitting right outside in the parking lot, if they have the necessary equipment & software.
