Subject: Please remind me how to get rid of the construct.

SamTherapy ( ) posted Fri, 25 January 2019 at 8:28 AM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 10:45 PM

Andy is easy enough to deal with but I like to start P11 Pro with a completely empty scene and I can't for the life of me remember how to do it.

Once I get that sorted I can save my default state.

Open the hierarchy menu, click on Ground, delete it. Done. Please be careful not to click on Universe accidentally, that crashes Poser and there hasn't been a fix for it yet. Save the scene under Preferences Default Scene. Next time Poser launches, your scene without The Construct will load by default.

In the Poser 111 scene folder, there are 3 alternative Poser 11 environments. Take a gander.

Open Poser. Andy appears. Delete Andy. Set your preferred resolution and render settings. Set your preferred camera settings. Save as a New Scene in your 'Scenes' folder. Then you can set the 'New Scene' file as the default scene Poser will load when Poser is started.

OK, I got the opposite; Poser can't find construct.obz when I open it or start a new scene. Can't find it in Geometries. I gotta reinstall all the content just to find it, or might it be hidin' somewhere else?

I doubt there's a Geometry file for the Construct, as it's a Prop, not a Figure.

You can find it in the Runtime > Libraries > Props > Primitives folder.

Miss B...

A) Geometries are not exclusive to figures. Many (most?) props have geometry files. And I looked in the libraries anyway... wasn't there.

  1. If there wasn't an .obj file, why would Poser ask me where it is?

And in conclusion... me fix. Made a modified render dome type tingy in Poser; Loaded a sphere, flattened the bottom w/ a magnet, used the grouping tool to invert the normals, scaled it up REAL big, exported it to a safe folder as an .obj, used a script to compress the .obj to .obz, moved it to my Geometries folder, fired up Poser & Bob's me uncle :D

Miss B ( ) posted Wed, 30 January 2019 at 1:29 PM

I think it depends on whether it's in OBJ format or, in the case of the Construct, OBZ format, which is compacted version. I don't recall the proper name of files like that, but they need to be expanded to get the file format we're used to seeing.

That said, I just double-checked my Geometries folder, and I have Construct, obz and Construct.mtl files in the Geometries > Primitives folder, so check there to see if you have it. Whether you can "import" an OBZ file as you can an OBJ file, I have no idea.

Yeah... I don't have a Primitives folder in Geometries. Might be the problem.

As for importing .obz files, they're considered as a Wavefront OBJ in the import menu.

No, Primitives are in the Props folder.

Then that's why you didn't find the Primitives folder in the Geometries, as I have both in my installation, and I doubt you'd have one without the other.

It's too bad they didn't include a default Skydome along with the Construct. The Construct is good for backdrops, but it doesn't cover the top, so rivers and oceans don't show a reflection of clouds and sky. After trying the Construct, I went back to using an old Skydome.

@ockham - I've been using the construct with my own pano skies for quite a while, as the screenshot shows, and not had any problems so far though I haven't rendered very large reflective surfaces. What issue are you seeing with the construct?

Caisson. Would you mind briefly explaining how you set up your construct, touching on your basic material room settings for it.

Thanks

Embedding doesn't seem to work, oh well ...

I made that video nearly 3 years ago for the first commercial product I made for Superfly. It's step by step from default startup scene to final render (a demonstration, not tutorial as I know that my knowledge is limited and that 3d, which to me is essentially a problem-solving exercise, offers more than one way to get similar results). The product I made it for is called Gogmagog and it is currently available at Hivewire free of charge as part of their Stay Home Spread Hope category (I am considering making it a permanent freebie and and uploading it here as well). The set includes a couple of high-res 16k panoramic skies (I spent nearly £500 on hardware and software to produce those!).

Thanks.

I'll go download it and check out your video too.

I generally use BB's Environment sphere with a gradient and an infinite. Its been years since I've rendered a populated scene render and since starting using Poser again I've just been doing IDL renders as tests for various character morphs I've been working on. The set up you showed above in response to Ockham's question piqued my curiosity.

Just for info: construct.jpg collect scene info is your friend :D Bill

Bill, I see you image with the tan walls and floor I'm look for with the guidelines. I desperately wanting to delete that monster black cone in the scene that loads. I want to get rid of that black scene that loads when you open poser. I have poser 11.3.818, but know nothing about this black scene and how to delete it forever. I even loaded the Poser 10 env, but it's not the same. I want to go back to how pp2014 and pp1012 looked - one color for bacground, another for the ground plane, then in display you show your gridelines.

I haven't used poser since pp2014, and you used to just set the ground plane to shadow catch only, then in the pose tab uncheck visible in parameters properties, then put your guidelines on the floor and bam, good to go. Now it seems more complicated that it needs to be. I don't want/need a ginormous skydome. Have no use for it. I have a bunch for ds and done't use them there either.

I found an image where you had made that (about) 1/2 way up the page, but couldn't read the little popup box. I'd like mine light tan for the floor, and a bit darker for the bg. with the regular old guidelines on it. How do I get that? I even loaded the pp10 env and it didn't look like it at all. Somebody had posed an image in this thread about it, but I can't read what's in the popup box. I think it was you. Can you help?

randym77 ( ) posted Thu, 17 September 2020 at 6:16 AM

Sapat, I have no idea what you're talking about with the "monster black cone." I have never seen anything like that. My default Poser scene looks like Bill's.

Have you tried returning to factory settings? Edit -> General Preferences -> Launch to factory scene.

I think the factory scene loads with La Femme now, but you can delete her and then make that your preferred scene.

randym77 ( ) posted Thu, 17 September 2020 at 6:32 AM

P.S. Sapat, I'd be curious about what you get if you use the Collect Scene Inventory utility. It's under Scripts -> Utility.

Mine is basically the same as Bill's, except I have my Poser runtime on an external drive:

collect.png

If you can't read the text on an image, you can right click on it. You'll get an option to view the image by itself, or open in in a new tab (depending on your browser). That should make it bigger, and you can probably zoom in on it, too (again, depending on your browser).
