Subject: Opening La Femme in Daz Studio

nekoloco ( ) posted Thu, 31 January 2019 at 9:25 PM ยท edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 7:47 AM

I was wondering if anyone else has done this. It opens fine, the expressions work but if you save a scene and reopen, she turns into a monster when using the expressions on the saved figure. You can create a pose, save the file, use it effectively on a freshly loaded figure.

La Femme was created for Poser 11 or higher. I think some folks have gotten her to work in Poser 2014, but I don't know of anyone who has gotten her to work properly in DAZ|Studio.

That said, I remember trying to work with the original HiveWire Dawn in DS years ago before I obtained Poser 9, and I was able to do most things, but after I saved her, and then reopened her, she had totally blown up, and also looked like a weird monster. P11/PP11 have options that don't appear in most earlier versions of Poser, so I can't imagine they would be available in DS either.

There's a Dawn that works in DS and has been around since the original (Dawn was originally made in DS then converted to Poser)so I don't know why you were using the Poser one. I've seen a few people who have got La Femme into DS. There is very little that Poser has that DS doesn't have these days, DS is much more advanced than it was in the past its made great strides with many of its features and continues to be developed regularly. The reason for La Femme not really working out of the box in DS is as far as I'm aware is the different method of weight mapping, DS supports 2 (I belive) types of weight mapping neither of which Poser supports.

It's a shame that the stuff won't work in Daz there are some very nice models, morphs and clothing . I guess unless they are working on the Daz versions (lets wish lol )

Torquinox ( ) posted Fri, 01 February 2019 at 6:02 PM

Someone on Daz forum got her to open. Said convert weight mapping to triax for clothes to fit.

I think you can probably forget that idea ;).

I'm having trouble seeing what the problem is with these figures. Use LaFemme in Poser (what she was made for) and use Genesis in DS (what it was made for). Maybe I'm oversimplifying things. LOL.

it's like use a flat head screwdriver for slot screws or a robertson for square or a cross head for cross head screws.

sure you can jam one into the other. but it's not gonna work very well. use the correct tool for the job.. it's easier...

nekoloco ( ) posted Sat, 02 February 2019 at 10:16 PM

When I started using Poser, V4 (a Daz product) was the go to model. The incompatibility came later. I just now bought Poser Pro 11 and am downloading it now. I did get La Femme to open in Daz and was able to do a lot with her but there are so many problems. Even with limited functionality, she is a great model. I'm looking forward to seeing what Poser Pro 11 can do.

coolcool ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2019 at 7:12 AM

LaurieA I don't have Poser and i can't see in the near future buying it, i would think that the artists creating these products would beable to make both versions after all it would just increase sales of said products $$$

Torquinox ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2019 at 7:57 AM

Not that easy to make it work in both places.

Khai-J-Bach ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2019 at 7:58 AM

except it won't be the same figure.

it'll be the same mesh yes. but the rigging textures etc will all be a different system. now, do the merchants have time to learn 2 systems, rig 2 systems, test 2 systems and then support 2 systems?

ask yourself that.

its time to be practical ppl and accept that somethings are DS and somethings are Poser. just like Mario is nintendo only...

Torquinox ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2019 at 8:11 AM

Especially when Poser is half in the grave.

Khai-J-Bach ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2019 at 8:20 AM

the forum users say it is. except the forum users are less than 5% of the user base that never even come into the forums. think on that.

Torquinox ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2019 at 8:52 AM ยท edited Sun, 03 February 2019 at 9:03 AM

Smith Micro is not even trying! If I'm spending money for the software, I'd probably take Reallusion for a spin. At least they're trying! Maybe that's where someone should try to open LaFemme?

Khai-J-Bach ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2019 at 9:05 AM

counterpoint :

why should they? most users don't even try to use what the software can do. the cloth room. hair room. hardly touched by most users.

remember - most users just want to load in premade content, premade poses, premade lights then hit render.

taking that into account.. poser is pretty much completed.

Torquinox ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2019 at 9:11 AM

What makes you think all that?

Khai-J-Bach ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2019 at 9:19 AM

experience as a maker (used to sell some content) user and forumite since well... lets just say I remember Pre-Rendo.. had poser 1... hell I remember trying to do modeling on a ZX spectrum 48 (Timex to the US crowd) back in the 80's..!

Torquinox ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2019 at 9:39 AM

I see. You could be right. If you are, why did Smith Micro stop trying to capitalize on content? The Male_M3dia guy seems pretty certain there is no profit in making anything for Poser. I think you know him.

ghostman ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2019 at 10:13 AM

Yes! Male_M3dia knows everything about poser since he doesn't use it.

Well, she looks great. As good, maybe better than G8 and that is saying a lot! It's still a question of skill of content creators vs platform. The reason I use Daz and quit using Poser, is because of Genesis. The reason I bought Poser Pro 11 is because of LaFemme. Poser should probably just dump some of the old content. It does not look good and it fills up the Runtime folder. Art , beauty sells.

Torquinox ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2019 at 11:21 AM

Ok ghostman, what do you say about it?

coolcool ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2019 at 12:33 PM

nekoloco ,,, she looks as good mabe better than G8 ? i don't know if i would say that. ( everybody likes the shiny new toys) lol

Torquinox ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2019 at 1:55 PM

Better than G8?! Um no. In fact, even for free, y'all can have her. I don't want her in my runtime.

Khai-J-Bach ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2019 at 3:16 PM

beauty is in the eye of the beholder

tis why I always have a laugh at "she looks better than..." statements.

I have Daleks and a Pierson's Puppeteer in my runtime that I think look better than G8 or this figure.

I got La Femme to work in Poser 7. There was something terribly wrong with her head (polygons protruding in all directions when moved, some of her joints do that too sometimes when twisted beyond limits, nothing Photoshop can't fix tho) So I set her head & eyes to be invisible and I smart prop-ed Vicky4's head onto La Femme's body and voila... FrankenFemmestein and I don't have to re-work the face morph that I like, how cool is that?! I have to admit she bends nicer than G38F and V4, her joints look realistic when bent. I like Poser very much... especially the older versions, a quick render at 4,000 pixels wide 300 dpi with a 60-light setup I've configured and using Poser4 style rendering, no shaders, no actual reflections just fake ones using a map, etc... takes about 2 to 3 minutes.

Torquinox ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2019 at 8:23 PM

@twiztidKidd: That sounds interesting. Yes, very cool! OK. Got the figure. I'll try what you say.
