Subject: New User With Some Questions

Hello! I'm coming over here from Daz3d and have questions about product purchases and downloads. First, being this will be my first time purchasing products from here, is it true that there is a 24hr wait period for the transaction to be completed and the product(s) can be downloaded? Second, how much time are we allowed between buying the product and downloading it? I seem to recall reading somewhere that there's a time limit. To download products you have purchased, I'm assuming these are accessed via the "File Locker" under the profile name on the top right, correct?

I think I've understood the installation instructions for products(hopefully). I must have counted 4 different locations Daz has stuff in which can get confusing. C: UsersMyProfileNameMy DocumentsDaz 3DStudioMy Library of which has 4 folders: People, Presets, Runtime, and Scenes. Those folders don't have any content in them except for stuff that I saved(poses, presets, scenes, and stuff from Skin Builder 8) so I guess any content from Daz is stored separately in one of the other directories.

Hi BleuPrintz, welcome to the Renderosity forums. In answer to your first time purchase questions, I've been a member, and customer, here for almost 19 years, so I don't recall whether it will take 24 hours after your first purchase. I do remember it wasn't instantaneous, but I think that's just so they can check that everything goes through without a hitch. As you make more purchases here, it will seem almost immediate, it's just the first time that takes a little longer.

As far as downloading, I usually download right after I make my purchases, but I can still re-download any and all purchases I've ever made here in the Renderosity Store, so I can't imagine you have to download immediately, though I'm sure one of the forum moderators can answer that question better for you.

As far as where you would download your purchases, you just have to go up to the right corner of the forum pages where it has your avatar and says Hi BleuPrintz, and click on the small down arrowhead there, which will give you a list of places on the site you can access, and click on the Account link. That should take you right to your account where you'll see a list of purchase orders, with the most recent purchase listed first.

Hope that helps answer some of your questions for you.

Ok, thank you for the clarification! Now I just have to make a list of the products I want and see how much space I need for backups. =)

As a longtime buyer in both places I do have a suggestion to make: Put the stuff you buy here in a separate library from what you buy at DAZ. Most stuff here does not have smart content entries, and it's easier to sort it by folder than to create smart content. That and it makes it easier to track down when errors occur. That's true for any freebies you pick up also, never put them in the DAZ content library. DAZ allows you to use as many libraries as you want, take advantage of that.

There is a waiting period for initial purchase, I don't recall it being more than 24 hours either. It's more to avoid internet scam artists than anything else, once the account is established it isn't an issue and downloads are pretty quick after purchase, paypal sometimes holds them up for a couple of minutes.

You have as long as you want to download, pretty much as long as you own the account you can re-download anything. There isn't an automatic notification of updates the way there is with the DIM though, you have to go and check periodically to see if there were any changes.

I think it depends on the vendor as far as updates go. I know over the years I've gotten emails from vendors (well not directly, but it "comes" from them), stating there's been an update to such 'n' such product of theirs.

I get those too, but with the DIM in DAZ that's all automatic. When you start it up, any updates show up at the top. Rendo is a manual process, you have to go out and look for them. It's easy enough to do, and they are all listed, you just have to know to go look for them. I check for them about once a month.

This is my current dilemma: where to put the content and how to find it within Daz. I wasn't aware that we could have multiple libraries for non-DIM content. C:>Users>Public>Public Documents>My Daz3D Library I thought was suppose to be for DIM content only, and that Daz products we get here from Renderosity(or any other non-DIM content) goes into C:>Users>MyUserName>My Documents>Daz 3D>Studio>My Library To be honest, I would rather not have more than one library for my non-DIM content at this point in time. I really don't have enough content for this to be necessary.

FlagonsWorkshop ( ) posted Fri, 22 February 2019 at 7:18 AM

You can move that library where ever you want, and there are a fair number of people that do. Daz looks for libraries that are specified under edit/preferences

Click on the content tab at the top, then the content directory button at the bottom. This brings up the dialog that lets you place the libraries. As I said, you can add as many as you want. If you move the base library you should also change the DIM path to match so new stuff goes where you want it.

As to why you would do it, these libraries get large, and often crowd the C:. In addition more people are using SSD's for their C: and these tend to be smaller. In any case I have a 3 TB drive I devote to the library that isn't the C:

Now as to why you would want more than one content library, that depends on your use of the program. If you add in content from other places and something goes wrong DAZ will be unable to help you. Particularly if something messes up the Gene pool for genesis whatever. Also most items you get outside of DAZ do not have smart content entries, you either have to make them yourself, or organize them by directory. I move Rendo items around freely.

Lastly, if you ever start making content yourself, or beta testing for somebody else, it is wise to put those items in their own library for testing so they are self contained. It's hard enough keeping track of revisions without having to search your main library for the files.
