Starting to create an Alita Battle Angel. I have a long way to go. Too bad this is as large as I can get her eyes with the morphs I have. I don't know how to create morphs, so I can't do my own.
Yes.Can't get the eyes bigger without distorting the mesh. I had to make a fix for that in zbrush.

It's okay. Looking at the reference images I have (I downloaded more than a dozen so far), I think the eyes are about the right size anyhow. I am going to follow a suggestion made in the SM forum and mess with facial expressions, so I can see how she looks with other than the dead eyed stare...

Made this to be a promo for the shoes, but the shoes are barely showing, so I'm just posting the render :P

@Rokket , Depending when Yukito Kishiro drew her, Alita's (Gally's, Yuko's) eyes varied in size, so you're certainly in an acceptable range to this nutball fan. If you're leaning more towards the manga art as opposed to the movie, you might try to make her head a fraction more triangular, possibly by just narrowing the chin and jawline. She also had narrow but puckered, pouting lips which gave rise to other characters in the manga calling her in jest "octopus lips". (Yes, I know an octopus does not have lips. I think "persons unknown" are comparing the large syphon tubules that allow for jet propulsion as "lips".)
If you're opting for a "live action" interpretation, what you've done works well enough "as is".
The following is not an analysis of your project, just a personal aside.
She didn't have them in the movie or the one-shot anime (and she didn't get them until she became the accomplished MotorBall player in the manga), but I've always loved the sickle shaped metallic bands she had under her eyes for the rest of the series. I thought that addition finally gave her that distinctive, signature look, ensuring she was not mistaken for another character from a different property. (We did however see her commanding officer sporting them during one of her memory flashes.) I sure if the studios back a sequel, we'll see Alita with them. Really, I have no concrete proof why she got them. I can only guess Kishiro got some positive feedback when she wiped war paint under her eyes (mud in the manga, dog's blood in the one-shot anime and live action movie) and came up with a reason (metal strips) to keep that look permanently.
Sincerely,
Bill

You've given me a lot to think about. I have to go back and do some research. Unlike you, I only started being a fan after the movie came out. I tended to leer away from anime and manga for reasons I can't even remember; probably due to my How To Draw The Marvel Way upbringing and my total immersion into both Marvel and DC's comics as a kid. But I do like her as a character, even is she is a Mary Sue. I guess we need more of those in our lives. Personally, I've had it up to the gills with the flawed hero archetype and I am looking for something else. I will look into the metallic eye patches and see what I can come up with. With Superfly, recreating metal textures is really easy, so I shouldn't have much trouble with that.

Oh, BTW, I wouldn't consider that a "dead eyed" stare. More like a "Oh, you're so dead, mutha f*cka!" stare, very intense and glowering which certainly fits Alita when goes all "Panzer Kunst".
Sincerely,
Bill
In order for her to go Panzer Kunst properly, she needs the Berserker body. I figured the best way to give her that is to do it in sections, rigging each section, conforming it to her, but hiding the original mesh, sort of what I did with Miki 4 when I created her cyborg body:
The Alita Berserker body part I showed there is obviously not as detailed as I will have it when it's finished. This one isn't even UV mapped, it was created just to show the concept, and only has a quick procedural shader on it.

Slowly I keep changing the figure , but I've reached a point that I'm reasonably happy with the morph. I think Ulrika's nearing launch status, Who wants to take her out for a spin ? I could do with a few Beta testers.
Sorry, just saw this. Would be happy to test if you still need testers!

Ok you should have it now.
Oh dear, these things are sent to try us. Are the settings on the mouth parts all set to zero ? This is what I did: create directory in pose directory of la femme. copy the three files to that directory. load La femme figure and select body actor Click on the Ulrika face in pose directory which runs the pz2 set Ulrika body morph to 1 The injection file is 122k You are running Poser 11 ?

Did you use the default La Femme figure ? Does this happen with the developers version as well ?
This is a quick go at the Battle Angel. Just dial spinning with Ulrika as a base.
Those look real nice, Afrodite-Ohki. LF can never have enough shoes, I'm so glad that support is up and running for her.

BTW I finally got the red dress packaged up and through testing so it should hit the store tonight.
It took me so long because I had to make 5 different versions and do at least a hundred simulations before I got one that worked perfectly in the cloth room, then made over 60 morphs for it and wrote a PDF cloth room tutorial. I even made fits for a bunch of figures including Genesis, V4, Dawn and PE: this doesn't have to come down to everyone pledging allegiance to one figure and $#!&ing all over the rest, there's no reason more figures can't coexist in Poser and the community can't work together constructively to achieve some progress in Poser.
Oh that red dress looks awesome.Thank you in advance for having it fit more than one figure. I'm a big proponent for multiple figures. In fact, I'm currently working on a scene with Project Evolution, Dawn, Victoria 4, LaFemme, and Victoria 3.
I think LaFemme looks great. And thank you for creating her.
Shown below is LaFemme wearing Karanta's Mila dress rendered in Octane.
I actually made a RedSpec SSS setup for her in Octane, she looks GOOD with it!
This is one of those times when I could absolutely kick myself square in the buttocks. This is an incomplete render. Because I had to stop it before it was done. Because we had somewhere to go. And I didn't save the file.

So these are very experimental, definitely not ready to be rolled into the base. Something for the shader gurus to play with.
..but here's a set of mesh corneas for LaFemme. They smart prop to the eyes automatically. There's an 'Optics' morph in them that adjusts the lens concave/convex -- by default they should be pretty parallel. There was a small black ring around the edge when rendering. Making the edge of the lens sharper, disabling smoothing, subdivision, etc didnt solve the problem so I sunk them a little into the sclera and they render perfect.
I don't really have time to render these out fully since it's past 3am and I'm about to fall out of my chair. cheers!!
Perfect. Was planning on doing this myself then I came across this pseudorandomly reading threads while waiting for a render. I'm really enjoying La Femme. She makes Poser 11 seem like a new piece of software :)

BTW, all the bending in the world won't help this figure go anywhere if we are stuck with the same limited content every Post V4 figure has received.
It isn't enough to just have vendors on board. They need to move out of the pin up art only mindset that has permeated Poser storefronts since V4. If all we get is a bunch of hookerware and early 20 something Caucasians, LaFemme will be just as still born as every other Post-V4 figure.
Don't need any figures that look exactly like their legacy counterparts; don't need anymore early-20's Caucasians (got 1,500+ right now). If it is Logan's Run only, it will be a harder sell.
Right now, people can do more with the golum because their is a much wider variety of content - They have kids, they have middle aged people, they have old people, they even have different ethnic groups, but no older characters of different ethnic groups (and caucasianized to the point of creepyness.) They have a wider variety of clothing (badly made for the most part - It wouldn't have passed QA back in the V3 era).
And needless to say, all of that post V4 content is a mere fraction of the content that is available for V4.
The easiest way to see if a character will fly is the amount of shoes made for it. Shoes are the key.
Chucks. And converse hightops. Already have vans (errr fads). Doc martens would be awesome sauce. And, ooh, some detailed asics: running and crossfit, please. And flats, of course. Chucks. I mentioned the chucks, right? They rule. Fistfull of cash-money, right here, for shoe vendors.
Nothing will ever take over from v4! Can you do this with La Femme????
I certainly hope so. I just did. In a few minutes. :p
La Femme + HD Morphs. Not one single stroke of the morph tool nor any correction morphs. Didn't mess with materials at all. One click of A V4 pose where the only tweaking was to take advantage of a waist and metatarsal to make the bends more subtle.
Most of the few minutes was spent dialing in my v4(wm) based "young dancer" character and setting up lights. Be gentle... I've never really tried a superfly render before O.O
I think it took 15 minutes to render. No post.
The outfit is FK's Ballet run through the Fitting room.
Verdict: love. Sorry, v4. It's not you, it's me.

I want boots. Low boots. And shoes that don't look overly contemporary. Something that could pass for historical, SF, or fantasy.
There's a bunch of very contemporary stuff for LaFemme, that I suspect will look very dated in a few years, but not much other stuff. (I did buy "Wayfarer," which is very nice.)

Ooh, me too! And granny boots. Anything but more hooker heels, really. I long ago tired of rendering yet another episode of "V4: Streetwalker". She's old enough now to need orthopedics, anyway.

Yes, I don't mind pinup wear, but it's not my first priority. I might buy it now and then, but I won't spend much. I'd like some shoes that would be suitable for a child, or a grandma.

Aww, v4... we cans still be friends! :)
I think I've learned more good "cgi stuff" in this thread than I have in the last year of messing about on my own. I like this Internet thing. Seems like a good idea. Now only if the Internet had a denser mesh so I could morph it into something better.

Way nice! Curious as to how much (and which) corrective morph sets you used, and how much you had to morph yourself. I would have bet money (not much) that v4 couldn't move like that. Or is that sasha? I only discovered her quite recently, and had already started using her in place of the various v4wm's for certain scenes.
operaguy posted at 11:06AM Fri, 15 March 2019 - #4348082
thoennes, It's only V4 with Sasha-16 with Morphs++ engaged. Maybe a little V4 Muscle Morphs, I forget. None of the other fixes nor my own morph brush work. I won't say more, since this is the La Femme thread. If you want to discuss further, leave a comment at my gallery or site mail me. Thanks.
Indeed. No bashing or thread hijacking. Cool, thanks for that. That's the same combo I use for v4 ^.^
Working with La Femme, I find myself arranging her dials somewhat like sasha's. For me, it makes locating a setting quicker. But that's just me. I wonder if an "arrange dials like figure X" script is possible? Maybe even renaming them? That is, for dials that have an equivalent. One thing that always makes a new figure challenging (for me) is sorting through the bazillion (well, maybe a few less than that) dials that I've gotten used to in Existing-Figure-Of-Choice™.
If it is, then I'm sure the La Femme dev team has plenty of time to write it. I mean, they created a new sophisticated and very complete figure in, what, a year? Two? And I'll bet they even slept a few hours, many of those days. Slackers. They should have plenty of time to indulge my every whim.
Note: I was being silly if it wasn't obvious. And if it wasn't obvious, the fault is mine :)
One thing I love about La Femme: working scales and translations. OMG, why did we have to wait like 20 years for that???? I can dial in a working body-character to a very large degree, just using those. Which makes conforming clothing fitting much easier.
I got that you were being funny. No problemo. I hope you know my render with both of them was in fun.
"Working with La Femme, I find myself arranging her dials ..."
Are you using Custom Parameters Palettes? {I don't know in what versions of Poser these are supported}
You can have as many as you want, and pull dials onto each from any parts of a figure, and even dials from various figures and props.
