Subject: Is upgrade from Poser 10 to Poser 11 Worth it?

fldrummerman ( ) posted Fri, 22 March 2019 at 8:02 AM · edited Thu, 23 January 2025 at 1:20 PM

I've been working with Poser 10 for quite some time and enjoying it, but I'm thinking of upgrading to Poser 11. Just want to see if it's worth the money and learning curve? Thank you for your comments. Also, if I upgrade, will I still have access to Poser 10?

IMO it is worth it. Since you're already familiar with Poser 10, the learning curve should not be hard at all.

Also, each version of Poser installs into a version-specific folder, so you will still be able to use any other versions of Poser you still have installed on your computer.

No, the step up is too low. Maybe go for it, if you can really have a good deal. Just wait for the next Poser to upgrade.

Yes, and yes. I used to have several versions of Poser on my computer (back to Poser 7), and they all worked.

The main learning curve I've found with Poser 11 is with Superfly. But you have the option of using the old Firefly renderer if you prefer.

I think it's worth upgrading just to be able to use La Femme.

It is absolutely worth it. I have several versions of Poser installed on my computer (back to Poser 8) and they all work, but I never use anything but Poser 11 unless I need to test something in an older version.

I love Poser 11 and think it's one of the best versions SM has ever put on the market. Of course, I do a lot of rigging and the rigging enhancements alone make it worth it for me.

Agree it is worth while to upgrade, that is I never regret I did. Take the Pro version. It gives you the copy morph and copy joint settings function, combined into the Fitting room if you want. And yes your 'old' Poser 10 still works after you upgraded.

I feel it's worth it. But it depends on you and what you want to do. Will you use many of the new features or are you just looking at a few? How important are the ones you'll use?

  • Poser 11 Standard, some key differences from Poser 10:

Fully native 64-bit (more stable, faster).

Auto-save.

Much Better Comic Book Mode.

SuperFly rendering.

OpenGL Preview is anti-aliased.

Better Content Library Manager.

  • Poser 11 Pro, some key differences from Poser 10:

(As above, plus...)

FBX import/export.

Collada import/export.

Fitting Room.

PoserFusion plugins.

Render in background.

Queue Manager.

  • Drawbacks...

Spending a day downloading, installing, getting runtime indexed, tweaking the UI, watching videos, finding and testing new features.

Reinstalling plugins, scripts, some scripts may not work.

Poser 12 may appear in 2019.

If your Poser 10 is stable as a rock, you don't make comics, you use a content library manager like PzDB, and you're perfectly happy with Firefly rendering, then... stick with Poser 10. But I'd suggest than having Poser in 64-bit alone is worth the upgrade, for those on a modern PC.

It was definitely worth it for me personally, but if you have no interest in Superfly, probably not.

If you have the budget available, please go for it. I felt it has been worth it - more stability, faster rendering, more features and tools for creativity. I am happier to learn how to create rather than depend entirely on purchased or free content which do not suit my vision for my projects.

Questions like this are odd because honestly, is a BMW worth it? Is a Lear Jet worth it? I have the car but not the jet.

I think SuperFly is a HUGE BIG DEAL.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

I upgraded from Poser Pro 2014 to Poser Pro 11 and I have no regrets. SuperFly is a game changer and Firefly is still there. To sum it up, you will have many more options with Poser Pro 11 than you currently do. I you are looking for realism then SuperFly is going to be the best choice.

I'm not into realism as much as some people are so I'm still learning how to work with Superfly to help me get the results that I like. Super fly = More Detail Anime = Less Detail. But with that said, I could easily switch back to FireFy if I need to.

This is using Superfly. (I think with no edits or very little editing) image.png

This is also using Superfly, but edited. The non edited render is not far off from this. Most of my edits are just boosts in color saturation. image.png

I took a look at your gallery to see what type of art you have created and it looks like Superfly is going to be a better option for you. If you are looking for realism out of Poser then it's basically the only option in terms of upgrading Poser.
