Is there any chance that the Poser Forum on SmithMicro can be preserved? There's a huge amount of really helpful information on there regarding Poser and it would be a terrible shame if that went the same way as the contents of the RDNA Forums.

Whaw, talking about NEWS. I was already a member here when it was still the BLUE site. Oh, I must be becoming an old timer fast.
Correct on the above remarks. First RDNA closed off, and a lot of technical information was lost when that was sold. Now all the latest technical info is on the SM forum.
But there is more to be taken care off. The Mantis reporting content, the current beta-testers and their long time technical knowledge, the pgportal for licences, it is going to be a lot of work for Renderosity to merge all of it for a restart.

as someone that has been here since day 1, this is extremely exciting. I have stopped using Poser and moved to DS, but this gives me hope Poser will get the enhancements needed. I like Poser a lot overall, and really want it to succeed.
Why is there no fireworks on the main page about this acquisition. its pretty low key overall

Because if Renderosity is going to support both Poser and Studio, it can't and probably shouldn't show favoritism to one software over the other. The 3D Content Directory is Poser--centric. Under Smith Micro Poser-centric was fine. Under Rendo, I think they're going to want to bring the band (community) back together. Nothing wrong with that, in fact I'm all for it. I just don't see it happening.
Congratulations! The team at Meshbox Design agree that this was both predictable and desirable for the future of Poser ?

That's probably not going to happen. DAZ has been rather one way on support as of late. I realise that a lot of users want Genesis to work in Poser, but no talk about getting Poser figures to work in Studio. But hey, if you think Poser can do it, why can't DS?

Perhaps Bondware will be the company that finally addresses the desperate need for an updated cloth room (real time simulations would be nice!), and maybe vendors will return to making quality props for Poser. One can hope . . .
Poser currently can do real time cloth room simulations by using Bullet physics. Renderosity does have some tutorials on Bullet Physics and how to use it. Look it up on the 3D Content Directory. I daresay he serves it. :> I personally feel bad because I've been away from my latest version of Poser (PP2012, mind you) since about a year after its release.. and thus have forgotten so much. I'm going to have to re-read the forum posts where I asked things, because I hate asking someone for help on something I was already told.. :)

Poser currently can do real time cloth room simulations by using Bullet physics. Renderosity does have some tutorials on Bullet Physics and how to use it. Look it up on the 3D Content Directory. I've not been able to get bullet physics to work in Poser Pro 11. I had a LONG thread of interaction with John at SmithMicro about this, and we were never able to make it work. I'd like to see simulation functionality like we get with Marvelous Designer in the cloth room. That would be really nice!

You bought Poser, but did you get a staff of developers with it as well? This move can be a good thing or the end of Poser. Will it face the same fate as all of the awesome software DAZ bought, namely Carrara 3D, Bryce 3D and Hexagon 3D...... ending up dead due to lack of know-how? Buying software is the easy part, modernizing, enhancing and improving it is something else. Did you get the technical know-how on the software as well? Do you have people that can actually take Poser to the next level? Congrats and let's hope Poser doesn't end up in the clearance department in time to come.

I know. It just doesn't work in Poser Pro 11. They really need to fix the cloth room.
That is a surprise. Not really been following anything to do with Poser for a while as I moved to using Blender for most things a while back. I still use my Poser Pro 2012 and old content sometimes though. Not entirely sure what I think about this. I hope Poser doesn't go the way of software Daz bought, like Bryce.

Sort of off topic, but the implementation of Bullet used in Poser really isn't for doing cloth.... It uses low poly hulls and you're far better off using the regular cloth engine. You can use bullet on constraints, etc. But it doesnt work so well on cloth even when it works....

Interesting how things work out. Renderosity was the 1st place I discovered outside of DAZ 3D when I was a D|S user so was how I actually discovered Poser.

I think he's referring more to desktop software development. It depends on what languages Bondware's web frameworks run on and if they utilize any desktop software dev languages where the knowledge can cross over (ie using something like C/C++ in the backend). For instance, like Blender, Poser utilizes scripts and such written in Python, but at it's core Blender is written in C. I don't know what Poser's core is written in.

The important thing being, though, that they understand the development cycle and how to evaluate a market.
I'm quite OK with Renderosity being the new owners of Poser. As they sell content too, they have an extra stake et keeping Poser alive. So congratulations.
There is one thing I'm a bit confused about.
Regular, non-pro Poser 11. The version I own.
It seems to be no longer on sale. Poser 11 Pro is the only version in town right now.
I read in another thread you can't even upgrade from regular Poser 11 to Poser 11 Pro, even if I have no current desire to do so.
Is it still supported at all? As in service upgrades, etc?
Interesting news. I've one technical question though, will I still be able to re-download my copy of poser 11 pro via the smith micro software downloader? Or will that be transferred to renderosity? Or how will that work? I had to redownlad recently because poser crashed so I'd rather be on the safe side about this^^
