Subject: Poser Content Directory

EClark1894 ( ) posted Sat, 29 June 2019 at 3:42 AM ยท edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 2:42 AM

As some of you know, I have a Poser Content Directory, free for all to use. As I check links from time to time to see which ones still work and which don't, in the last few days, I've discovered that some of the Smith Miro Poser Webinars which I had listed in my directory no longer seem to be available at YouTube. This may be due to the recent sell of Poser to Renderosity, and you will still find Poser videos on YouTube, but those seem to be the ones listed by non-Smith Micro creators and Renderosity. The ones still working by Smith Micro seem to only mention Poser as part of the work flow for another Smith Micro product. Just thought you'd like to know.

As soon as I am able, I will adjust the listing in the Directory.

AmbientShade ( ) posted Sat, 29 June 2019 at 3:53 AM

Dang, that sucks. There was a lot of really good info in the Smith-Micro webinars on their youtube channel that Renderosity's tutorials have not covered. I wonder (hope) if they can get those videos reposted to Rosity's channel.

Those videos will be appearing on the Renderosity Poser channel very soon. ๐Ÿ˜„

I'm still working on ways to improve the Poser Content Directory. Anything you wish were added to or deleted from the Directory?

EClark1894 ( ) posted Mon, 15 July 2019 at 3:29 PM

Willyb53 has been added to the La Femme Vendor list.

I debated whether to start a new thread or just bump this one. Here's the thing. My domain name needs to be renewed soon. I'm curious to know whether or not you find the Directory to be any help to you at all when searching for or finding content for Poser. I'm on the fence at this point about renewing, but I'm leaning towards it.

I haven't used it a lot, but I did not too long ago. I went through every link in one of the categories looking for something. And I've done similar in the past, though maybe not every link those times.

I love your site, EC. I do think you should make the URL in your signature clickable. You know how lazy people can be. Ahem (I just looked in the mirror. Extra Lazy). If you can keep it you should. What's the cost of another year?

EClark1894 ( ) posted Mon, 09 September 2019 at 4:11 PM ยท edited Mon, 09 September 2019 at 4:12 PM

I just wanted to let everyone know that I just renewed the Poser Content Directory domain for another year. That's the good news. I may have to let the Tutorial section of the directory become unaccessible for a while. Most of those tutorials are for the Poser webinars. Although Jenn Blake has said that Renderosity will be adding those webinars to the Renderosity YouTube channel, I haven't seen or heard any news since then. I even wrote an email, but did not get a response.

I have decided to give it another two weeks, then regrettably delete the Poser webinar tutorials from the directory.

quietrob ( ) posted Mon, 09 September 2019 at 4:53 PM

Thanks to the Big E! It's why I gave you a mention in what has become the Star Trek thread. A listing of Poser resources is a MUST!

EClark1894 ( ) posted Wed, 11 September 2019 at 3:48 PM

Just thought I'd forewarn you guys that the Tutorials Content Category has been rendered inaccesible to all. Most of the tutorials were Poser Webinars anyway, and Smith Micro has taken them down. Renderosity was supposed to add them to the Renderosity channel but that has not happened, and at this point I don't know if it will.

I know I jumped the gun on the two weeks thing, but, eh. In the meantime, I am going back through the Tutorials and checking the links to make sure they still work. When I am satisfied, I will make the category available again.

give them time on the tuts being ported over maybe?

certainly they all must be extremely busy with this Poser buy-up and pending update. it's probably still on the list of things to do somewhere once the dust settles a bit [?]

Doesn't matter really. At the moment, all I'm doing is making sure the links are correct in the directory. I've deleted all the SmithMicro webinar links since they're no longer working anyway. When and if Renderosity adds them, I'll be happy to add them to the page. It's all in Renderosity's court now.

EClark1894 ( ) posted Thu, 12 September 2019 at 3:58 PM

It didn't take nearly as long as I thought, so I've updated the page, deleted a few links and reactivated the Tutorials page for the directlry.

EClark1894 ( ) posted Thu, 03 October 2019 at 1:29 PM

I have a question for all users interested in Poser content, whether you make it or buy it. I am considering making an alphabetical listing of ALL vendors who make and sell Poser content in the community. For now, it's limited to makers of content for Poser, sorry, but who knows, if I can figure out a way to make it work I may make it a searchible databse and include all vendors in the community, we'll see. But I'd like to see how much, in any, interest in such a listing there is out there before I start.

ALSO, if you're a vendor, would you prefer being linked to your main store, your website, or your product?

I'm looking to create an alphabetical listing of each vendor listed in directory. It's in addition to, not a replacement of listings now. What this listing will be initially will be like a phone book. You look up the name of the vendor you want, You find out where his store is and go there. Eventually, I want to convert it to a searchable database where you type in the vendor's name and get a link in return.

If what's being catalogued is the product, then I'd prefer a link to my product. If what's being catalogued is me as a vendor, then i'd prefer a link to my main store. ๐Ÿ˜„

Also I have a wishlist that might be too much work so I'll just mention is as not-a-request: I wish we had a list of products separated by content type. with nifty thumbnails.

Like, a catalog where one could click La Femme and be taken to a list of categories: Hair, clothing, acessories, shoes, characters, poses etc. And in each of those categories, thumbnails of the products leading to product page.

But I DO realize how much work it would be to make that, so... it's just a wish ๐Ÿ˜‚

Afrodite-Ohki ( ) posted Thu, 10 October 2019 at 1:23 PM

I'm not sure if a category for specific content VENDORS would be so useful, more like for figure vendors etc (as in, broader categories)

Specific ones would be good if a page could categorize PRODUCTS... but way too much work, yeah.

Well, the Directory does have a "Clothing" Category, with Conforming and Dynamic Clothing under it. It DOES NOT specify vendors who make or include SHOES in that Category. A "Shoes" category would include vendors who either make or specialize in shoes, both conforming or prop, and vendors who INCLUDE shoes with their outfits.

To me, that's no different than the categories I have divided into content for Dawn and Dusk, Pauline and Paul, Project E, or La Femme. Unless... unless I were to just include shoes for those figures under those categories.

I want to let everyone know that apparently I have some weirdness going on with the directory. The image which normally graces my Home Page when you first log on is slowly disappearing and I can't figure out why. I've no doubt that it is is me and not some virus because I've been working like crazy on the code lately, and apparently that one element is the only thing affected. I just wanted to put your mind at ease and let you know that there is nothing to fear from the site itself. It's just me. Hopefully, if I can figure out what I did, or what's causing it, things will go back to normal soon. In the meantime you can browse and search the directory as usual with no fear.

EClark1894 ( ) posted Tue, 29 October 2019 at 7:31 AM

Well, I had to delete the code that called the index pic, but I put another one up in it's place and everything is back to normal.

Just updated the Comic Book Software page in the directory by adding a Screenwriting Software Category. Please note that some of it is Free while others are paid for software. You should READ about the software before downloading it.

EClark1894 ( ) posted Wed, 18 March 2020 at 4:18 PM

I could use a little help here: I wanted to add another category to the Comic Book Software Page in the Directory. It would tell people or anyone interested in making comics, where to download or get software to generate things like Fonts, and Speech and thought Bubbles in artwork. Does anyone know if there is a collective term for those particular features in comic book art that I can use for a category title?

EClark1894 ( ) posted Wed, 18 March 2020 at 5:52 PM

Just Created a new index in the Directory. If you're looking for Reference Photos check this out. These are mostly Creative Common license photos that you can use to help you create new content in Poser or your modeling app. These photos are MOSTLY Free, but may be under various licenses for their use. Please be sure to read the licenses.

Well in comics that stuff is commonly done by someone with the job title "Letterer". So... Lettering and layout software?
