Subject: Restoring the Old Library Interface

quietrob ( ) posted Sat, 29 June 2019 at 8:41 PM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 12:14 PM

I've been using a browser as my library. It's worked great until right when I need to launch the PERFECT V4 creation process. It just sits there. I think it was coded to start a script from the library applet and not a browser. However, I'm not sure how to reset it so my library starts.

There are many who have done the same. Any Help?

Thank You.

Update. It was the browser that I was using that was causing the launch fail. It still would be good to know though.

Which browser are you using Rob? I'm curious because I've been using the External Library for a long time now, and really like it.

I was using the BRAVE Browser because supposedly it's the fastest stable browser on the market. Clearly, it has other issues including not being recognized by CCcleaner.

Once I had switched back to Chrome, the script launched. Sorry for being so verbose but I use Chrome, Miss B.

You call that verbose? 😆 Not a problem Rob, and I've never heard of the BRAVE Browser. My main browser is Firefox, though I do have Opera somewhere on here. I just don't use it very often. I had not had any problems with the External Library, even to the point of trying drag and drop, and it always works fine, so I was surprised when you stated something wasn't working. Glad to hear you have it working again.

I don't use an external library because I go weeks without internet. That would kill me.

If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.

Of course not Rokket, I wouldn't think you would. Then again, your circumstances are unusual compared to most folks, so for the average Poser user who is online daily (or close to daily), it's a nice alternative.

The thing is, the external library browser function doesn't touch the Internet. You could use it as long as you have Poser fired up.

I used to try a different browser all the time but they scams are unreal. They all want to change your prefs so they profit. I found Brave with the search parameters of the fastest browser. I still would like a way to reset it without deleting my ini file. No way do I like using Edge or Explorer. Big Brother has too much control already.

Oh I haven't used IE since version 3, that's how long ago I gave up on it. Then with Poser 9 there was an issue when my laptop updated it to version 11. I had to roll it back to version 10, and then go to Microsoft to find directions on to close it off completely so no one can use it. In fact, I don't think I was ever able to even find it on this laptop anymore. Of course, SM updated P9's Library to take care of that issue, but I always hated IE as a browser, so haven't missed it one bit. I've not heard of the Brave browser before, so I'll have to investigate it.

As far as changing your prefs so they profit, that's why I gave up on Google Search years ago. Now I use Startpage, and have not had an issue since, and it has an option so you can view things on a site anonymously. I like that option a lot. 😉

Oh that is a nice extension to have. Thank you, Miss B. I like the privacy and the thought of NOT making big brother richer as they data mine me.

Maybe someone could explain. I bought Poser 11 pro but didn't load it at the time because I had heard it had some problems, one of them being the library search. I have kept Poser 10 pro with gaming because it does 99% of what I want. The only reason to go to 11, I think is because of LaFemme.

My machine, as I said in another post, is kept standalone to allow it runn leaner and faster without all the internet access gunk. There are expensive programs on that machine and it hasn't been worth the risk.

So, If I go to Poser 11, do I lose the library search I have with 10? It has been a big benefit and I am very used to using it as a core part of my workflow.

I went from Poser 9 to PP11. I haven't noticed any improvement OR problem with the library search function. You won't lose a thing.

What some of us have done is change the ini file to allow to use the browser of our choice as our library. It does NOT connect to the internet it just allows to see searches differently and some of us like it. Some prefer the regular Poser Library so it's still up to you.

Oh! And PP11 offers other new things like a new rendering engine called superfly if you're into hyperrealism. Since you're at the home of Poser, I'll let the landlord continue to pour you the kool-aid.
