Subject: Laptop use with Blender 2.80

I got a touch screen laptop. I want to use Blender but I forgot the USB thing to connect my wireless mouse with my computer. I was wondering is it possible to use Blender 2.80 without a physical mouse but a touch screen and a touch pad? Also how do I find out which version of Blender 2.80 am I using?

I've had students who used a touchpad, and it was a bad experience. A touchscreen may be better , but you could only do so much.

It is better to do one thing well, than to do many things and excel at nothing.

You might be able to do some things with a touch screen if you had like a graphic pen that gave you the functionality of a mouse a three button mouse is pretty crucial to access much of Blenders functionality. The splash screen when you first start up Blender will tell you which version you are running

Simple scene navigation and some minor tasks are possible with the touchpad, but it's very much required to have 3 button configuration on either a mouse or graphics pen to get things done efficiently in Blender. There is a Portable App version of Blender available out there which should work with a touch screen much easier than the standard package, but I do not know if it has been upgraded to the latest releases. I know the "Blender For Android" app has not been updated since around 2015!

With many of the new keyboard shortcut changes in 2.8 a mouse is I feel even more crucial than before I really honestly believe to use Blender effectively a 3 button mouse is a necessity

Agreed. With 2.8's left mouse button configuration, the right mouse button becomes a context menu for whichever sub-object mode you are using. This increases navigation efficiency and helps reduce the need for all the hotkey "finger gymnastics" required in some older versions. It does, however, increase the need for a third mouse button or drawing pen configuration to get all the benefits.
