Subject: Mesh breaking when posed. Help please.

booksbydavid ( ) posted Wed, 14 August 2019 at 11:03 AM · edited Sat, 25 January 2025 at 9:52 PM

I've modeled a dragon and have rigged and weight mapped in Poser 11 Pro. This is my first quadraped model, and my first rigging and weight mapping of anything other than clothing in Poser. Everything has worked out relatively well except for the jaw of the dragon. When I open or close the jaw, the mesh breaks at the neck. I've tried the affected actors function for the neck part as well as the jaw. For the neck part there is no problem, but adding the neck as an affected actor for the jaw doesn't appear to make any difference. I will attach images below.

Since this is a personal project, it's not end of the world stuff, but it is a bit irritating from a creator stand point. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Looks like a grouping issue. How does the groupings look?

This is what the groupings look like in Poser.

Yes you need to regroup it. You need to group the Jaw to the head since you cannot have a split like that with both the Jaw and the Head connected to the Neck. If you regroup the polyloop that is connected to the Jaw and group that to the head group and it should work. Two groups that are connected to each other can't also be connected to another second group like that.

try making sure all bending zones are turned on if this persists could be a bad rig in set up room, the bones may not be placed right maybe.
