Subject: Excited about Poser again

Snarlygribbly ( ) posted Sun, 15 September 2019 at 2:35 PM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 6:37 AM

It's been a while since I was motivated to use Poser. For a long time I didn't even have it installed.

But now that it is the hands of a company that cares about it, I'm feeling all enthused again :-) I've been dusting off my old runtimes, restoring my scripts from my backups and browsing through the user guide to try and remember how to use Poser! I'm getting that tingling feeling again, as I think about the stuff I want to do with Poser. It feels nice :)

It's exciting to see the new developments unfolding, especially with all the new content coming to the party.

One of the things I loved about Poser from the old days though, was the whole community thing. The Luxpose project, the Mr. Looper thing, Antonia, the hacking of the Poser file format, the Bagginsbill master classes - I loved it all.

I don't know how many of the old guard are still around, but if you remember me, do stop by and say hello :)

Cheers, Snarly

You think you're so easily forgotten, Snarly??? Umph! Nope, that ain't possible. You may be out of sight but never out of my mind. If I didn't say it before, I'll say it now... Thank you for the all scripts that make it easy for those of us whose brain cells are already warped by 3D imagination.

And in the language of Dr Who's wife: HELLO, Snarlygribbly...

Just knowing you're excited about Poser again, is exciting!! I agree with everything ThunderStone said, as anyone who's played in Poser knows who you are, even if they haven't "met you" on any of the forums.

I'm now looking forward to seeing what "new" goodies you come up with. 😉

Hell Snarly, some of your scripts have become standards in the world of Poser. Welcome back.

I was about to make a little joke about not remembering you then post a screenshot of my scripts menu, but then I loaded Poser and was kindly remembered that I deleted my main Runtime a few times while testing the early adoption version and that's where scripts go 😂 oops. Will have to reinstall a bunch of scripts when the rounds of testing end.

So glad to see you back, in any case! That's super exciting to have enthusiasts coming back, specially the ones who add so much value (and ease) to Poser.

Nice try, but I think you and Bagginsbill are secretly the same person. Superb knowledge, the willingness to share your gifts with the masses but never in the same thread at the same time. Come clean! We'll love you either way.

If I'm wrong, then I'll just accept your invitation and say hi...and thank you. The Force is strong with this one.

I use a lot of your scripts, so of course I remember you. And I am just as happy to see you back in the mix with the rest of us nuts.

I think it will do better with Renderosity. Some how I imagine there will be much more knowledge and tutorials thrown around here.

Ah, EZSkin, and a material room I could actually use....those were the days!

I wonder what make someone part of the "Old Guard". Do you have to be old, and do we need to focus on that? How about "Elite Master's" or the "Great Forerunner's"? ...or more singular "Sensei Gribbly-san"? 😀

Boni ( ) posted Mon, 16 September 2019 at 2:57 PM

I just refer to folks like Snarly and bagginsbill as the Gurus of Poser, or the Great Masters. Seems to fit for me.

I hope it's not just for that incident with the ice cream on the German border. Or that time in the park with the magical elves…?

It seems like an age ago, doesn't it? I hope you're doing well, chick.

I'll second that Boni, as I can't think of a better way to describe either one of them in relation to Poser. 😁

Welcome back! I mentioned in earlier posts that we needed people like you, Bagginsbill, Semidieu, Colm Jackson, ao back in the game. And that they should restore python compatibility with earlier versions of Poser. We humble mortals need some enlightened experts to make sense of the hidden possibilities of Poser, and get the most out of the software....

Using EZSkin for two thirds of my renders.

Colm Jackson went to work for DAZ I believe when RDNA sold out. I don't know if he's still there or not, but that's when he stopped producing for Poser.

Yes, I know. He did some great things for Poser, like the Render Studio modules and Terradome. RDNA was quite innovative in those days. Had hoped he would upgrade these to Superfly. Or do something completely new. Oh well, everybody has to choose their own paths, i guess....
