Subject: Problems after upgrading from 11.1 to 11.2

starfish34 ( ) posted Thu, 19 September 2019 at 7:08 AM · edited Thu, 07 November 2024 at 1:31 AM

I upgraded from 11.1 to 11.2.20190812 last night (is that the latest?) installing "Install Poser 11.pkg" but not "PoserSupport.pkg". I'm on a MacBook Pro, Mojave 10.14.6.

Purchased items I have in the Downloads folder don't show in the library (the Downloads folder in the library is now empty) and I finally had to manually move things I need into the main Runtime folder. The main problem is that navigating the finder from within Poser (adding a library, searching for a missing link when prompted, loading a texture in the material room, etc.) is now extremely slow and my tablet immediately stops working and has to be unplugged. By "extremely slow" I mean select a folder, wait a minute for it to highlight, then click open and wait another minute for it to open, etc. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @starfish34, despite the version number shown in Finder Info, that should be the latest, you can confirm the actual software's version in the Poser->About Poser... menu, which should be 11.2.272.

To confirm that the empty Downloads folder you're seeing in Poser now, isn't the one where your previously installed content was, we'll need to look at your Library preferences from the previous installation, to see what's different. These preferences live within a normally hidden folder called Library in your home directory. To get there in a Finder window, choose Go->Go to Folder... or press Cmd-Shift-G and type in ~/Library/Application Support/Poser Pro

In there, you should see a folder called 11 and at least one other folder with a name starting with 11_ and followed by a datestamp like 201909191452 or whenever you ran the installer. In the 11 folder are the current Poser preferences and the other folder has your backed-up preferences. If I choose the 11/LibraryPrefs.xml file in the Finder and press Space a QuickLook popup like this: Screen Shot 2019-09-20 at 5.01.20 am.png lets me see the Library Runtimes Poser currently knows about. Doing the same in the 11_20190919HHMM folder, shows me my previous library runtime list, so it's possible to see where that purchased content was previously installed. You may need to add those Runtimes back into Poser, using the Add Runtime + button in the library within Poser.

Oh, I've just been reminded to check how your filesystem where the content is installed is setup. Can you launch /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and check whether any of your mounted volumes are case sensitive? I'm told there may be a newly discovered problem with Poser's library on such filesystems, which is being looked into now.

For those interested in such things, the standard macOS filesystem used to be Mac OS Extended (Journaled). This is case-insensitive, but case preserving, meaning that you can use CamelCase or sImIlAr in file names and that will be remembered, but if you ask for CAMELCASE or camelcase, you'll still get the file CamelCase. The newer default seems to be Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled), which wouldn't return CamelCase if you ask for camelcase. Another, recent option is APFS, designed for SSD, which also can be either case-sensitive or case-insensitive.

There are reports of many software packages being intolerant of case-sensitive filesystems. Adobe CC, Steam, etc. Poser, in this instance, at the moment, seems to be in that category. That may change shortly.

Which MacOS do you use? Selecting the About Poser menu entry does not show any about screen on my system. Thats just one of several issues i have with 11.2 on High Sierra. Tested with build 271 and 276. I tested normal install, clean install, with SN, without SN, ... Its always the same.

Thanks for the reply. I've finally managed to add a separate runtime, though still can't get it to see anything put in the Downloads folder. My library prefs look just like yours. But my main concern is that any interaction with the OS, even saving a file, navigating, attempting to add a runtime, anything, has a minute long pause between every action. In other words, the system seems to freeze for a minute and you can't even do a forced quit. I didn't have 11.2.272 but do now, and still have the same problem. I even tried a fresh install and still haven't resolved the problem. None of my other apps have this issue. It's Poser-specific and only happened after upgrading to 11.2.

I'd guess the slowdown is due to poser indexing the library. On one of my machines this is really slow, so whenever I add anything to a library, move stuff around in poser add libraries etc I get this, with no cure other than to close poser (sometimes even forcing this through task manager)

It behaved the same way when I did a fresh install of 11.2 that has just a few things in the runtime. It's like the 30 second or so wait when Poser is first starting up, before the small start up screen appears, when the system seems frozen and won't even respond to a forced quit. If I recall correctly, before upgrading to Mojave I could switch to another open app immediately after clicking the Poser icon to start up Poser.

Não consigo mais abrir o Pose. Já estava atualizado e funcionando 11.2 I can't open Pose anymore. It was already up and running 11.2 Aparece a seguinte mensagem: UNABLE TO CONTACT LICENSE SERVER
