Subject: Poser 11.2 where do all the goodies go?

blackbonner ( ) posted Sat, 05 October 2019 at 4:49 PM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 2:13 AM

Since the Poser 11.2 Update there is a hugh amount of goodies one can download to feed the internal runtime of the poser installation. I am tryed to bring order to my Runtimes and so i started to separate all the items i had in one huge runtime. Now i have one Runtime for M4/V4/A4, one for M3/V3/A3/ST3, one for Props and Buildings and on for all the hair i sampled over time. The Project Evolution has also got there own Runtime, only my previously purchased LaFemme Stuff, Tyler, Miki4 and everything G2 went into the Poser Runtime. This took at least 2 weeks to do, because i had round about 5000 zip files, each of them had to be searched for the readme files and then i had to make the decision to drop the item or to keep it. Some of the older stuff was meant to be used with V1 and 2, they got sorted out now. The same amount of files had to be installed via exe files, like in the old days of M3 and V3.

That been said and done, i was a bit confused and insecure of what items i suppose to put into the Poser 11.2 runtime folder. Some of the Figures, like V4 and M4 demanded to be installed to the Poser Installation Folder, where the Poser Exe File is located. But since Poser 11 came out, the Runtime folder and the Installation folder are not the same anymore, which made things a bit more confusing.

So i thought, it would be a good question to ask to the Poser Users here on Rendo. So, the question is, what items should be installed into the Poser 11.2 Runtime?

Nothing except python scripts. Although the old installers from DAZ still work, they demand that a Poser.exe be present in the folder. You have 2 options, go to DAZ3D.com and re-download the zip files from their site and reinstall from those files, or create a dummy Poser.exe using a text editor to fool the .exe installers. The process behind this is to open a text editor, type something in it and save it as Poser.txt. Next, rename that file to Poser.exe. Place it in the folder you want to install V4, M4, etc.

Thank you hborre. To be clear on this issue, nothing except Python scripts includes the stuff that is downloadable on the new PoserSoftware Website? This would be not that much of work for me, because im don't use Python Scripts, except the EZSkin 3 from Snarlygribbly. The dummy Poser.exe is quite a good idea, but i am curiouse what would have been the benefit of installing the files the way it was original intended. I have never done that, because i have installed V3 and M3 content into the Poser Installation folder under Poser Pro 8 once and accidentally killed the Runtime during a deinstallation of the Program. Since that time, i prefer my runtimes separat from the main runtime and always hold a copie on an external drive, just in case.

It might be a mish mash ... But might I suggest an external drive and a Poser 11 download folder for all of them ... Save you a headache later ... Again, just a suggestion.

All my runtimes are on external drive except for the props, poses and figures that came with Poser. All Python scripts are also in the initial Poser runtime. That's it! By the way, it never hurts to keep organizing your content. With so many models, it makes sense. So far it's easiest for me to simply go by Vendor and if that's not possible then I'll lump them together in an appropriate folder like !Spaceships. The new search makes things easier because it works quite well with an external browser with a light footprint.

Thanks again, seems I'm on the right way with that. I will have look on the python stuff, it was put into my huge runtime and seem to function pretty well. But I suspect Poser will find the Data dependent on the Python Script faster? The new search function is pretty good, I also like to use the favorites, because if one is honest, I'm sure I use max 10-20% of my whole Runtime Content. The Favorites come in handy because there are items I use almost everytime I start a Project. A side effect of setting up a new Runtime is, one comes across items one is not even aware of they exist. I have cut the size of my Runtime from around 80 GB down to about 50GB by sorting out things I never used. I also found it logical to build the Runtimes around the dependence, like V4 Figure goes with clothing for V4. To use the vendor as category seems complicated to me, because he or she maybe has build clothing for different Figures and props or scenes. I also think I would end up with hundreds of small Runtimes. But I know there is more then one way to reach a goal and everybody has his preferences, right?

Definitely! The tightest runtime I've heard of is Miss B's. I can only imagine the time it took for such perfectly organized runtimes. And no. I only have 3 runtimes. Within the runtimes, they are separated by Vendors as well. We all have our favorites. My Kayela (She is so cool!) listing is a go to like my Coflek-Gnorg. Aiko 3 is still my favorite figure.

quietrob, got a quick question, if you don't mind. I never ever used the Aiko 3 Figure, despite the fact that i have a ton of cloth and stuff for her. In what way are V3 and A3 compatible in regards of textures and morps? I have some nice tings for V3 i want to trying on A3 if possible.
