Subject: GIMP Forum Requested

EClark1894 ( ) posted Tue, 12 November 2019 at 10:33 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 6:58 PM

Hi folks, I've requested that the community start a forum for GIMP users here at Renderosity. It can be used to post tips, Tutorials, ask advice, let you know when the latest update is due, etc. Would you like to see a GIMP forum added to the community?

EClark1894 ( ) posted Tue, 12 November 2019 at 10:41 AM

BTW, yes, we could use the Photoshop forum, but 1) I didn't even know we HAD Photoshop Forum before this, and 2) while GIMP is an alternative to Photoshop and you can do a lot of the same things, you can't do them the same way. A GIMP Forum will tell people specifically HOW they need to do something IN GIMP.

AGAIN, I second this motion.

Yes, very much so.

I support this as well. 😉

Let's hope they do it. I use GIMP a lot in my workflow. Anything I can learn about it is a plus.

Just don't do what I did when first using gimp and needed to search google for how to use masks!

EClark1894 ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2019 at 10:37 AM

I have a tutorial for that! 😀

Nothing has been decided yet ... how would you feel if some other software was combined ... and clearly labeled. That way in your posts you would specify which software the thread is about? I had a GIMP forum and it had so little activity that it was closed down.

Well, we could use the Photoshop Forum if you think it might work. That doesn't seem to have much activity except what I've been posting lately. Or we can take over the Paint Shop Pro Forum. Just a suggestion.

How would you feel about combining them all? Not in discussion quite yet, just getting your feedback.

Not a problem for me, and a single place to post tutorials. I do feel a little guilty posting Gimp and Photoshop Tutorials in the Poser Forum. True, I do hope people get something from them, but it does take away space and time for Poser.

I do believe they used to have a gimp forum and it was rolled into the 2d and traditional art forum along with many other 2d programs. The reason given was they were all underused, if IRC

Correct. I'm suggesting better labeling and combining. We are discussing.

I support this , I love GIMP , GIMP is encough for my work . I use a XP-Pen Star 06 Digital Painting Tablet with GIMP as I will likely never be serious enough about drawing to feel the need to pay for anything fancier.

I have a Bamboo tablet, which I never use because I'm just too set in my ways about having to look at my screen while I work. Too bad they don't make the tablet the screen so you can draw right on it.

Also, there is a Photoshop Forum, but it was dead there as well. With the exception of some Forum announcements, all the recent threads there were started by me, as well. To be honest, it's kind of disappointing as far as response goes, but maybe if it was in it's own forum...

There are also "other brands" which sell them much much cheaper,(299.99 and up) and do a pretty good job at it but since there not "wacom" you dont here about them much.

Best to combine 'em... maybe name it "Postwork Tools" forum or suchlike, then just have it so that the thread titles go something like... .

"[GIMP] How Come .psd brushes are broke again!?"

"[AdobeCS] Adobe asked for my firstborn son but I only have daughters - what to do?"

...you get the idea :)

Of course you can always specialize your threads in a particular forum but frankly, most people prefer to lurk and reap. I went to a Renderosity youtube video on dynamic clothing. It showed, I think some 1600 views and 2 count 'em a whopping 2 comments. The group we have here is special for they research and rant and help and share our love of all things and Poser and more. Poser isn't just the 3d models, it's also composition, postwork and imagination. Anywhere where can see your thread, whether it's a combo GIMP and Photoshop forum or even right here at the official Poser thread is fine with me.
