OK.

  1. So what is the purpose of Merging All Zones To Weightmaps.

And,

  1. I am using Simple Bones Single Skin - Interoperable for my skinning method. But, everytime I save the CR2, and load it in a fresh scene, the weightmapping is gone, or Poser reverts to Poser Traditional Skinning. GRRR.

Am I missing some crucial step in the process ? This is the third time I am painting all the Joint Parameters with subtract, add, smooth and weight brushwork. I am tired....

I don't have the answers ... but I'll send some folks over who may have ... you might want to contact AmbientShade or if you know his real name go to Facebook and ask him, he's created a few figures ... as well as Dodger.

I have written up a discussion post about my procedure at my personal deviantArt Gallery:

These are my results, but I can tell you the body mesh really stinks when posed, no matter how many times I fix the Joint parameters. The weightpainting won't get saved !!

Left is Firefly render, Right is Superfly render.

Does it lose the mapping if you save your work as a scene and load that back into poser? Or just when saving as cr2? Not that I have an answer about the mapping, but maybe can use that as a work around for your figures until you can get an answer, wouldn't be losing your work that way at least, if it does keep the mapping when saved as scene.

Consider me insane if you wish, but is your reality any better?

Caveat: I don't know a lot about rigging. Having said that -

I think the purpose of Merge All Zones is so that you could use the older method of spherical/capsule falloffs first to get started (as they can be quicker for an initial pass), then Merge and then refine the weights. Also used for converting older figures to use weight maps.

With the second problem, if you export the figure as an FBX format file with the rigging options checked, does it save the weights? Can it then be imported with the weights intact? Reason I ask is because this is supposed to be a good way of transferring rigged figures between apps, and I have been able to load La Femme in Lightwave with the rigging intact. Thought it might be worth a try.
