Just posting it here:

This week, we are happy to report that Poser 11.3 will also support the latest NVIDIA RTX (Turing architecture) GPU cards on Windows. This has been a common concern from customers at our support desk, especially those purchasing newer hardware for improved performance with the SuperFly (Cycles-based) render engine.

Oooh that's great news!

Not for me personally as I don't have one of those 😂 but I know people have been requesting it.

Same here, but glad to see it for those who do have these cards!

Does that mean Poser11.3 is going to have the current version of the Cycles engine or is it just an update for the GPUs?

This is fantastic news! I had to get a new laptop back in November, as the 8-yr. old one has about had it, and I purposely told the sales rep I couldn't use the RTX GPU with two of the 3D software apps I use on an almost daily basis, so he replaced it with the latest GTX, BUT, the latest GTX is ALSO running Turing, so I still have to use my CPU when rendering with SuperFly in Poser, and Cycles with Blender. Luckily I don't do final renders in Blender that often, but I do use SuperFly all the time with Poser, so I am thrilled this is being fixed. 😁

If its an upgrade to Cycles does that mean that there may be AMD support as well? I'm in the market for an upgrade but holding off for this update. Do I even look at AMD cards?

I hope the "RTX Support" will also help those of us with the latest GTX GPUs (for example, GTX 1660ti), which are also having Turing related issues.

its an upgrade to Cycles does that >mean that there may be AMD support >as well

Cycles has alway been hardware agnostic.

However the"experimental" RTX support in Blender 2.8 is strictly a NVIDIA thing.

And the free Radeon pro render engine in blender is

AMD's effort to promote their hardware as well.

Could any of the beta testers report that the missing Cycles nodes are present in the 11.3 update or is that a trade secret?

Afrodite-Ohki ( ) posted Fri, 07 February 2020 at 1:11 PM

I'd seriously doubt they're adding new features to the renderer/material room. That would be a big update worth going into the next version, I suspect.

I think it would be unwise to read anything into the announcement other than what is stated, RTX support is being added. It does not say superfly is being updated, rather the RTX drivers are being included. Equally I'm sure they would have said something if they were including the open cl drivers to allow amd cards to be used as this would be a big thing worth trumpeting rather than slipping in unannounced.

Adding something they left out is not a new feature. At best it's a bug fix.

Just had a closer look at PP11.3.5... not really visible updates there is the feature that you can look at your Purchases in the library logging into your account. the Installer will make sure to make a complete uninstall of your previous versions a full clean up , no alternate options!

I noted that it somehow messed up older versions of Poser on the machine but might also be a glitch. then rann a test with a Python collection D3d Pythons all dead and many others that get mostly a bad magic number might be over 80% of pytons that were working in SM Poser 11 ! A byt a shame as it naturally also affects older 2ond skin packages and material setups that have Python support. these get mostly useless.I did not check the Surreality Pyton based dolls jet and quiet some other fabulous packages for V4 if there would be an issue with the Pythons then for sure it would be a sad loss of outstanding Products. These would all get useless in Poser.

might be something they have to consider making a roll back to get these Pythons working again, allot of great Python creators do not release further updates and there are almost no new releases of useful py apps that were making life easy, so the old ones could be of great value. A big stepp backwards if they would not !

So no Juheeee or Huraaa for that beta release from what I can see

We've been explained in these forums before that the nodes that weren't included required changes in the very way Poser's interface is coded. Mostly it's nodes that allow input like curves etc.

Micromesh displacement wasn't included because it didn't exist in cycles at the time Superfly was created and released.

Those wouldn't be bug fixes.

Well I stand corrected on the version, even though it's still downloading for me.

However, being a BETA release, it's to be expected there will be glitches, requests for uninstall etc - that's what beta versions are for. So that you can help them hunt for problems on a blank slate.

We're being more open with access to the beta installers this time since it's a free upgrade.

@Afrodite-Ohki there a full list of bug fixes circulating that should be posted soon.

I think a lot of us took that as meaning only the usual crew of testers were checking it 😂 might be worth clarifying.

I've downloaded it, but I'm still considering if I'll install - I have a bunch of products in progress, not sure if I can afford risking downtime with beta problems right now. I'll think about it tomorrow, got a promo render cooking right now!

Sadly, I can't test the RTX thing though.
