Going forward from today, we are cracking down on off-topic posts, personal attacks, trolling, etc. Off-topic theads will be moved to the appropriate forum, and all other offending posts will be removed and those posting them will be warned or banned. Off-topic includes posts primarily about other software programs. If someone is trolling or posts a personal attack, don't reply to them, that just makes the situation worse. Report it to me or to darknewt.

We want this forum to be a pleasant and fun place to interact with other Poser users, share tips, etc. Please do your part to make it that way.

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

Thank you Jeff. I, for one, am very glad Renderosity is going to be doing something about this. 🙂

I have only returned to the Renderosity forum since their purchase of Poser having had a break of around two years. I had been a regular visitor before that but the flame wars got too much for me and I was learning little so I just stopped visiting. On my recent return I was pleased to see that the forum had improved no end and many of the flame war experts had moved on. My heart began to sink over the last couple of weeks though as the forum again seemed to be heading for another downward spiral.

I commend this announcement, we have far more in common than we have differences, for me the hobby is meant to be fun, but I am sure vendors can also do without the grief of wars and personal attacks. I look forward to the weeks to come to see how the crackdown works, hopefully it will calm down and the forum might just attract people who are real supporters of 3D art.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

I'm very happy to see this post and that action is being taken against trolling and bullying on this site. While I've fortunately not been on the receiving end of personal attacks, I know some members, including vendors, have been. One of the vendors (not naming names here) actually was/is this close to pulling out entirely and not making Poser content anymore. I hope and pray this post convinces this person as well as others to stay in it for the long haul, and strive to make Poser the great program that I know it is and one that I know CAN kick a**, especially with new features and improvements in the pipeline.

Happy rendering, everyone, and have a great weekend!

I agree with you and the great worry is the one you mention in that the result might be that the small number of Poser vendors gets depleted still further, I even wonder if that is the intent of some of the trolls but that is just my thought. When the conversation starts to go south I tend to move into lurk mode but the problem with that is is tends to leave those being attacked in a lonely place. Despite that, responding is not the right option because it will only make matters worse and secondly it will have no positive effect. When I am tempted to respond I always remind myself of the quote 'It's always possible to wake someone from sleep, but no amount of noise will wake someone who is pretending to be asleep'

I am really glad that the moderation team is taking action. For the most part I've simply stepped away from here because the bickering and the invasion of extreme trolling/OT was ruining every thread I had interest in. Hopefully now things can settle down and we can get back to discussing our enjoyment of Poser.

WheatPenny, I'm not trying to be funny or anything, but can you clarify what constitutes an off-topic post, please? I just want to clarify that you mean an off-topic reply in a thread, and not an off topic thread title like a celebrity dying, or something to that effect. Are off topic threads still started with an OT-?

Rhia474 ( ) posted Sun, 16 February 2020 at 9:12 AM

Thank you very much. It is not just vendors that were considering stopping .

Off-topic posts, for the purposes of this rule, include things not related to Poser. Posts about other software are generally not allowed, unless it involves the other software being used with Poser. An announcement about a celebrity death might be an exception, but that would be better off in the Community Center, or the Break Room forums.

This is not a new rule, btw, it has been in place for several years, we have just been too lax in enforcing it.

Thank you. Like I said, I wasn't trying to be funny. But as I often posted things, such as links to articles I think would be of interests to others. it's good to know that those posts were considered off-topic. I won't be doing that anymore.

:To Ryzen or not to Ryzen? in the Poser forums Nothing to do with Poser

The actual question asked in that thread was how will a ryzen processor do in poser, so was a question directly related to poser.

CHK2033 ( ) posted Sun, 16 February 2020 at 1:14 PM · edited Sun, 16 February 2020 at 1:22 PM

No its not, because by that extent EVERYTHING is related to Poser because Poser does not model a damn thing, everything is done elsewhere. which would make that rule null. everything I create is made for Poser, yet I had someone when I showed a model Im creating for poser in blender say basically go to the Blender forums? So tell me. about how things related to poser are ok?

The Ryzen thread is allowed because it's about using it with Poser. A thread about making Poser content in Blender or any other modeling app is allowed.

The rule is fairly lenient. It's not intended to stifle discussion, just to prevent flame wars, etc.

I actually had been avoiding that thread, because until this moment, I had no idea what a Ryzen was. However, after reading it, I can see how it relates to Poser regarding graphics. Especially since it's something I myself will have to contend with in the next few months. Don't worry, I'll go elsewhere to ask for advice.

Yeah I know that, the point I was trying to make before I was so ..rudely interrupted ..was you have some extremely intolerant individuals "group of" here who just can not help themselves to comment when their input wasn't/isn't needed (hence the 1st post I made, Only you could remove or leave that there, ..but still....just to prove what im saying ).

One more question, why not just delete or remove an offending thread or post? I once asked that an entire thread be deleted or locked and it wasn't. Just allowed to continue on. I left Rendo for awhile over that as I felt I was being ignored. And it was MY thread that I started that got derailed.

After reading quiet some threads in here I think it is a good thing Happening. I hope that you also eliminated the two main causes of issues or at least took care of them. there were quiet some interesting conversations going on that were Interrupted by some beings, in a pretty rude way, I guess based on their attitude, or sort of god complex. In the other hand it seems that other members that were bringing quiet some interesting dialogues vanished, so hopefully you have shut the right ones out and not all the ones who actually keep the forums alive 😄

Like CHK2033 said , Poser is not a creation Programm ,it needs a whole lot of other Programms to make it possible and people with know how that are mentioning them , else Poser wold not have anything else then a few Primitives. I Mainly think that you have keep out these "two" main Factors that were Aggressin other members avoiding to loose more and more valuable members, as after reading the threads issues were always caused by two female members and not by the ones who were drifting a little away into other creative subjects. " Some Members were even bringing these forums a little alive so would be nice if it stay's that way "

Will see what the future will bring

Maybe it helps to look at the registration date of a poster to identify the new wave of trolls which now start to become vocal.

I hope the moderators will strictly enforce these new rules from now on, because the information value about >Poser per se< vanished to almost nill in the last several months because all interesting threads were buried under a shitload of irrelevant threads, or threads were hijacked to OT by some members so that the relevant information got buried in tens of pages of OT posts.

I wouldn't dare to say the old SmithMicro forum was better. But at least they managed to keep the known trolls out, most of the time.

I DO look forward that this forum will become a source of information about Poser again, and not a place where paid trolls can run rampant at their will.

regards,

Peter

Are you trying to make any inappropriate accusations ? sure Renderosity can start to ban any new account made that are no potential buyers within a few weeks that sure would make sense ! If yo do not let People talk then it all will end up in numbers of threads like posts that are being made with new Poser releases, diminishing the Interest even more, I do not think it would be a good way to go ! If something is of interest then people come and talk but if you stopp them of talking they just loose interests and leave!

I do not think pikesPit's comment was aimed at all new members but probably came from past experiences where, when the moderators attempted to tighten things some new members appeared who, I suspect had been encouraged to join by the same posters that were being suspended or barred. It was quickly apparent that their views were similar and they were also disruptive. That is my opinion mind, pikesPit may have had something different in mind. In my case it is not an accusations just a comment at what I have seen happen elsewhere in the past, and not just on 3D art forums.

I do think this is a great move and, so long as the rules are applied consistently and fairly everyone should know where they stand. One forum I left had a post suggesting certain governments (I will not supply the name given) had a secret operation where they were rounding up the homeless and burying them in mass graves. Due to poor moderation at the time this post was not at all exceptional but clearly nothing to do with 3D art. Bad as it has been the flame wars here have gone nowhere near that far, but any dive needs to start somewhere and can only continue if there is no, or bad, moderation. One reason why I full support this move.
