Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 24 8:11 pm)
clothes in poser come in two types, conforming and dynamic. Conforming clothing is in the figure category in the library, dynamic is in the props category. If you select an item for the figure you are using, eg a LaFemme item if you are using LaFemme from the character menu it will conform as you expect.
For dynamic clothing you run a simulation
These tutorials
https://www.renderosity.com/mod/tutorial_premium/?section_id=1&page_number=2
show you how
There are two types of clothing in Poser. Conforming clothing is automatically poseable.
There is also dynamic clothing, which is typically a prop (which is why the conform to option is not enabled for the clothing). Dynamic clothing is meant to be used in the cloth room.
I'm trying to find a quickie tutorial that will help show you the steps, but not having much luck. Does anyone else have a tutorial they can recommend?
Thanks for that information. I wasn't aware of the two different types of clothing.
Okay, so for quick one-off pose setups, use Conforming items, under the "Figures" tab. For something that I might want to have animate, or otherwise better fit to a pose "dynamically", use the items under "Props"
Is that correct?
Going further... I'm looking through the marketplace, and except for a couple cases where the creator specifically indicates it's for the cloth room, I can't see any way to know which type a given clothing item is.
For example.. this item specifically states in the Description that it's only for use in the cloth room... https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/trixi-dress-and-14-styles-for-la-femme/140248/
But other items don't.
How do you tell the difference before buying something?
Thanks again.
Most of the clothes that need the cloth room, will say dynamic or something about the cloth room. If it doesn't, it most likely is conforming. Most of the clothes are conforming.

For most starters dynamic cloth is a show-stopper. Dyn-Cloth should be more clearly marked. And as far as I can see it, most cloth for LaFemme seems to be dynamic. Not conforming.
Although I originally said conforming cloth appears in the figures category, this is true for items you buy now and stuff for LaFemme, but for older figures such as Alyson etc you will find conforming clothing under props. (I'm not sure exactly what comes with poser before purchase.)
If you purchase, the additional free content does include more conforming LAfemme content and there is conforming content for her in the marketplace.
You can also have a look at the readme if you are not sure if a clothing item is a prop (dynamic - cloth room) or conforming.
You can find the readme on the product site:
If you see items with the ".pp2" in the readme - those are dynamic clothes or props (shoes / jewellery or something like that)
If you see items with the ".cr2" in the readme - those are conforming clothes
Hey thank you for that infographic! That'll be very helpful.
I did a couple quick tests with the cloth room, and it's really not that intimidating. Just some key steps to remember. I'm sure I'll find a use for each type of clothing as I go.
Thanks again!

Indeed, very helpful :)
Everyone in this thread has helped out a ton. So thanks!
Poser's a pretty interesting and deep piece of software. I remember seeing it around forever, but never thought to look into it. I thought it was just basically a simple virtual mannequin type program. Had no idea how extensive it was.
Quite a bit to learn, but I really like the way Poser is laid out. Things seem organized more to my way of thinking/organizing. DS is fun to work with, but it gets a bit overwhelming sometimes trying to remember what is found in what tab, in what folder under what category, on what part of the screen, etc. It's not an "A is better than B" thing. Just Poser clicks better for me.
Eager to get access to more of the available content, so I can start really working on stuff. Feeling a bit limited with the content provided with the free trial :p

Also, if you look under departments on the product page you will see all dynamic clothing should be in 3D Figure Assets: Dynamics for Poser if it is for Poser.
3D Figure Assets • Clothing 3D Figure Assets • Dynamics for Poser La Femme Pro - Female Poser Figure
Hope this is helpful.
Ah, that explains it then. I had a specific reason for asking. I was trying to use Bullet Physics to animate the dress. Problem is that smart propping it apparently makes it a part of the figure hierarchy in Bullet Physics, and the dress needs to be it's own object. I kept selecting it and it kept falling through La Femme. I need to assign the dress as a choreographed or soft body object in Bullet Physics which apparently, I can't do if it's smart-propped.
You can change that of course. Select the dress and in the top menue click on "Object --> change parent" - change that to "universe", than click on "ok". That should solve your problem :)
After that you can save the changed clothing item with a new name into your prop library and it will save as a non-parented prop.

FWIW, sometimes conforming clothes don't 'take' first time. eg LaFemme's swim-suit 'drags & drops' to fully conforming about 85%.
For the rest, if you move her, prepare for blushes. Gotta select & delete the garment, reload it...
You can just select the suit, figures>conform>lafemme

Hello,
So, I've been trying out Poser, and I like a lot about it. But there's one thing that continues to be a problem, and will be an absolute deal breaker for me buying it.
Clothes aren't conforming to poses.
I'm following the tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVy_fDKV-BU
I add the la Femme figure I drag the dress, located inside the la Femme tree, on to the figure The dress conforms fine to the T-pose. But as soon as I try to change the pose to any of the provided poses (again, all listed in the la Femme folder tree), the dress goes wonky.
I tried to "conform to..." but that option is greyed out in the menu.
I tried a couple other clothingi tems included in the trial, but those don't work right either.
Considering this is one of the core functions of Poser, I'm not terribly impressed lol. This can't be normal or expected behavior.
Why isn't clothing that's ostensibly designed for the figure, not conforming to the figure? Shouldn't that be happening automatically?
See the "before" and "after" pics I've included.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
