I'm looking into moving all my work into Carrara (probably some PhotoShop post-work). I'd started working with DS. It's great, and I've gotten some really nice results. However, I miss the ability to build/model stuff right in the same scene, and exporting/importing is more hassle than I want to deal with. Since Carrara has built-in support for earlier figures, and for G3 via the community, I think that's ultimately going to be my best bet.

One thing that I'll miss about DS, though, is the IRay rendering. I like having that photo-realism as an option. I know Carrara has some pretty advanced rendering capabilities, but it's still a little behind the times. I've seen Lux Render available for Carrara, however, and what I've seen from it looks like it's about on par with IRay - or at least close enough for my tastes.

I'm curious if anyone who works with Luxus Render here can share their experiences working with it? Pros? Cons? Likes? Dislikes? Maybe show off some renders? I've got it in my shopping cart, and am ready to make a purchase. Would just like to get some insight from those who use it.

Further, I'm curious which figure you find has the best support/compatibility in Carrara, even excluding G3 from the equation? I'm thinking G2 Vic/Mike6 seems good. But even V5 might be fine? Are there differences? Or is it pretty much the same across the board?

Just want to know where my time and money would be best spent going forward for purchasing new figures, clothes, etc.

V5 is genesis and comes with the Carrara content

i've played with luxus and archvis. havent found a good skin shader, dont know enough to make my own skin shader.

if i had the bux, would go with octane over luxus, honestly.

Do you use V5 in your Carrara work? Or do you use other figures?

I've looked into Octane and heard some good stuff about it. Sadly, it's a bit steep for my budget. I have seen some base skin shaders for Victoria 4.. I think on CarraraCafe. I could work with those for the time being, 'til I can learn how to make a proper one for V5 or V6, etc.

The Genesis1 figure can use V4 skins, the genesis female preset loads with the V4 uvs.
It can wear V4's clothes and hair with the autofit clone (included with the figure).

Te Genesis 2 famale, Vicki 6, also does a good job of wearing V4 clothes.

Vicki 5 preset has it's own uvs set.
