Subject: The Missing Poser Manual

Retrowave ( ) posted Mon, 09 March 2020 at 6:41 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 11:08 PM

I once downloaded a very detailed Poser manual called "The Missing Poser Manual". I don't have it now, but It was uploaded to a website by a member called ArtBee, which I have just checked, and while the manual is still listed, clicking on it fails. I'm just wondering, was it moved to another location, or is there anywhere else this specific manual is available for download?

I haven't seen ArtBee in the forum for a very long time. I don't recall any announcements of any ill-health or passing.

I had a number of Artbee's manuals listed in my directory, but removed them a few months ago as they began leading to dead links. As far as I know, they have been taken down and are no longer working.

Hmmm, sounds like we need a sleuth then, so who's the resident Super-Sleuth of the Poser forum?

This is serious stuff, peeps, cause The Missing Poser Manual has taken its own name far too literally, and has actually gone missing. It's even more serious for me, cause it's gone missing just when I need it for cross-referencing material nodes!

Cheers RP, but it's the same situation on the current web, cause clicking on the book fails.

scroll past the bookshelf and there are links that work.

Wow. I use to make a point to periodically refer to ArtBee's manuals and tutorials. I can't promise anything. But I'll do a call out to see if I can find him.

From what I can see, the links do work, but they are archived as well. I'm assuming this is the Wayback Machine. Wonder if I should put the manual back, but link to the archived pages?

Retrowave ( ) posted Mon, 09 March 2020 at 4:33 PM

But those links that work appear to be introductions to the various parts of the manual, but nothing like the actual manual I remember downloading (unless perhaps I'm thinking of something else). I remember it as having very detailed, well written descriptions of each node along with examples of each.

Let's hope Super-Sleuth Boni unearths a copy through her detective work!

Very informative about the cloth room if I remember correctly, I think they've actually been unavailable for a while...

Hi! I have about ten manuals by aRtBee, one is called: "aRtBee - PoserMaterials_ConceptsElements_Full" Size = 8906 Kb, downloaded in 2014. Is this the one you are looking for?

Retrowave ( ) posted Tue, 10 March 2020 at 8:55 AM · edited Tue, 10 March 2020 at 8:56 AM

Sounds interesting, Jonny, and sounds about the right time, but I don't recall ever downloading one with that name, that's a new one on me!

Seems a bit odd though, don't you think, that they are no longer there? it's not as if he's removed his website, so it seems odd he would keep a website up that is effectively useless without the guides it promotes. Makes me wonder if it has something to do with a file-host going down or someting like that.

You can download the webpage that the information is on. I spent most of this morning downloading all the webpages of Artbees Missing Manual I could find. Unfortunately, some of the links don't work and I couldn't get those.
