I agree with infinity10 on using the DEV CR2, however, why are you the fitting room to fit the clothing? Transfer the L'Homme morph for the intended clothing and conform. It fit should be fairly close. Trying to use the fitting room for this particular instance does not always work as it should. Keep in mind that although you are transferring a morph to clothing designated to a closely related figure, female to male morphing may not be exact.
So, what you said doesn't make sense, but I tried it anyway. (The shorts are M4. Transferring the morph to them makes little sense in my mind. they are just going to look like image 1.)
I took my M4 clothing confirmed it to LH and transferred the L'Homme morph to it. It actually fit fairly close until I turned on the LHomme morph. Then it deformed like the first image. (This is presumably because the LF -> LH morph is a fairly severe change in geometry. It just doesn't transfer to clothes well.)
But worse, I now have an M4 rigged pair of shorts on an LH. They don't move the same, so when I move LH's legs the mesh bends horribly. So, I transfer the joint zones over to the shorts. This is now much worse. The shorts are now shifted way off the LH body. No recovery possible. start again. (I didn't really expect this to work, anyway.)
So, in my mind, I believe I need an LH rigged pair of shorts. When I fit the shorts to LH, and save the fit as a prop. I should be able to add the Dev Rig to that, right? nope. I had already tried that. Adding the rig appears to set it up so it would line up to the LaFemme rig.
So, explain like I'm 3. How do I get a rig for LH that doesn't bring along all the morph baggage of LaFemme? Maybe, there is a tutorial out there for LHomme clothing vendors that explains this?
Wait wait wait.... OK, so you like to work directly with the LH morph setting at 1.0 in the La femme figure. Understood. You want the M4 clothing to fit the L Homme morph. Understood. Load both items into the scene. Do not conform the clothing to L Homme . Do not do that. Adjust the XYZ translation of the clothing so it comes close to the L Homme figure position. Go into Fitting Room. Perform the fitting procedure without zero clothing and without zero figure. The software will try to fit the clothing to the figure. It may not work 100 percent. Export as a Prop. Use Morph Brush on the new prop and adjust the clothing further to fit L Homme better. Start a new fitting session using the new prop and L Homme Do not zero the prop and do not zero the figure. Run the fitting procedure. Once it is nicely fitted, export as CR2.

Ah, we got more information. You didn't mention in the original post that you wanted to convert M4 shorts to L'Homme. Fair enough, this is sometimes overlooked. I would with infinity10's process, at least that is how I would approach it. The only problem I would foresee is the mesh becoming distorted through multiple runs in the Fitting Room. The other problem is how well will the clothing conform after getting it to fit in the T-Pose. If I was desperate to absolutely use the item of clothing, I would get it to fit in the posed position for the scene and work with the mesh with the morph brush.
I was thinking exactly along these lines. It doesn't work for me. I can get a decent looking prop that appears to fit but as soon as I apply a rig either in the fitting room (just go in with the prop and create a figure with no more fitting), or in the setup room (I've tried the Dev rig as well as the normal LH rig), it jerks up out of place.
This process works fine for LaFemme. I can transfer the joint zones and I can get the clothes to conform. It will not work for LHomme.
I don't know how much it would help, but one of the problems I had converting m4 things to L'homme was that the scale was being calculated twice, once with the morph and once when I include scale option in the properties menu. Unchecking that helped with at least some of my problems.

I haven't tried to play with scale yet. I will do that. But I see this in the Poser 11.3 release notes.
"The La Femme figure will be updated to remove dial for L’Homme morph, which will now be a stand-alone figure. This change was done in response to the community requests and vendors so that they may now create content for the male figure in a much more streamlined manner to which they are accustomed to making products for Poser."
Has anyone had success using the fitting room to fit clothes to l'homme yet? I get all sorts of strange results with clothing for his top half, shirts etc, no matter how I try to set things up in the pose room there seems to be vertical displacement when I go into the fitting room. (I haven't tried trousers/pants yet) I think it might have something to do with the strange scaling of l'homme but don't really know.
If anyone has a step by step guide to a method that works it would be very helpful.
Of course, one of the ways suggested here about converting to LaFemme and using the l'homme morph is no longer available as the l'homme morph has been removed from LaFemme.
I've been trying to convert the m3 tunic from the daz tunic set and a basic m4 long sleeved t shirt
I was able to get it to work, but I don't remember what I did. I just tried l'homme 2.0 and stuff worked much better.
1 I loaded L'homme
2 turned off the iks
3 zeroed him
4 set the l'homme size morph to zero
5 fit M4's valiant pants to l'homme with scaling, positioning and the morph brush (I have better luck with these tools than with the fitting tools)
6 go into the fitting room
7 make a new session
8 select the clothing for the object do not zero it
9 select l'homme for the goal he should be zeroed already but you can have that checked
10 fit the clothing if you didn't
11 create figure
12 select the body parts you need
13 I will have all 3 options at the bottom of that window checked.
14 back in the pose room, copy joint zones and conform

Thanks RedPhantom, it was setting the l'homme size morph to zero step that I was missing. Until you mentioned it I hadn't even realised that the size morph existed. My first attempt worked with it set to zero.
sschneew it's in with the pose dials under l'homme body
I missed it at first too and had fit the pants to the larger body. I caught it right before I had gone into the fitting room and had to readjust the pants

I've been struggling with the fitting room and the L'Homme character. Any help would be appreciated. I've altered the workflow to try and compensate for problems, but keep running into new ones. If I start with the L'Femme character at zero, then fit and transfer the LHomme morphs to the clothes, I get strange undesirect morphs.
If I start with the L'Homme character, then fit with the zero figure unchecked I get shorts a different undesired result.
The second method seems promising, but how to I correct the rig?
