Subject: Returning to Poser after 7 years

Dmon ( ) posted Mon, 23 March 2020 at 8:17 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 1:16 AM

Hello everyone! Once upon a time I was a fairly experienced Poser user, won some render contests here and there, created some freebies etc. (Christel at sharecg) Then life happened. I lost all my Poser files and content, decided to forget about it and move on. Now I'm sent home from work, in isolation, looking for something to do, so yesterday I purchased Poser Pro 11 and downloaded what I could from here and DAZ. Great service btw!

My gallery was at RuntimeDNA, so that's gone. Also missing some files from there, that don't seen to have transfered to DAZ. Will have to work that out with them.

Two things I miss the most! One was a freebie (I think) that looked like a melted human figure. I think there was both a male and a female. Can't remember where I got it. The other was a python script that you could use in Poser to cover things with snow - or dust. I was a tester for the second version, but I can't remember who made it. If anyone can direct me to one or both of these products, I will be very grateful!

That's all for now I think. I do have some concerns about the Poser software itself, but that will be for another time. Looking forward to get started again!

Welcome back. The script you may be referring to is the snowmaker script but unfortunately, it does not work in Poser 11. There are old scripts that are no longer working correctly, so you will need to be careful about what you purchase in terms of nostalgic content containing scripts. Molten people, I can't help you with.

Again, welcome back.

Was it the Snow machine by Snarlygribbly?

EZSkin does an excellent job of realistic skin in Poser 11 Superfly

If you've not already thought of it then a sub to Renderosity Prime and/or DAZ Platinum (3 month) will more than pay for itself when catching up with new stuff.

Thank you very much! Yes it was the Snowmaker script. Very sorry to hear it doesn't work in Poser 11. One of the issues I noticed was that some python scripts no longer work. In general I'm a bit concerned that Poser may have reached the end of the line and will no longer be developed. Some things seem have gone backwards, in terms of quality, since Pro 2012.

As far as I've been able to find out, the latest several generations of Genesis no longer work in Poser, So I will probably be using Mil 4 figures. DAZ seem to have really taken off in their own direction. Too bad I never liked the UI in Studio.

Melted human figure? Could you be more descriptive? Anything else you remember?

Melted human.. Only thing I can think of that may come close were Catamaran's PlasmaGram and Plasmacon which had the figures V3/M3 figures coming out of a screen. Pictured below. They can still be found over @ thefantasiesattic if they are indeed what you are thinking of.

I found it! Turned out I had the zips on an old external drive. It was called Liquilution.

Apologies, I was posting in a rush. I did mean to say M4/V4 stuff and props/settings. I do sigh sometimes when I see some settings and find they are DAZ Studio only. There are some threads here about importing Genesis figures into Poser but as I've not tried it myself I can't offer an opinion

Genesis, Genesis 2, and Genesis 3 can be conveniently imported into Poser through DSON. However, both Poser and DAZStudio files need to be installed and linked to Poser. Genesis 3 needs a different application to convert the model but works well. If everything goes okay, you will have poseable Genesis models. Genesis 8 is a different bird and requires an additional modification to get it to behave in Poser correctly.

Snarly: admit it!

You're a Russian!

This (well, except the boot, and the stick figure) are just a perfect caption of how winter looks in Russia and Ukraine.

It immediately reminded me of photos which I found in my grandfather's photoalbums, and the detail is just stunning, right down to the snow slowly sliding off the cabin roof and the bonnet in the sunshine, and the snow caught in the wheel rims!

Only the star on the door has the wrong colour, and of course the text is wrong for that period... :D :D :D

But maybe it's correct?

It might be a vehicle which was just recently shipped to Russia from USA via Loch Ewe, and after convoy PQ 18 arrived at Archangelsk there was no time for embellishments before commission? :)

Great work, and your Python skills are what I strive to achieve, but probably never will.

Cheers!

K

Well I've forgotten so much it's quite possible I never will again either :-D

Maybe one day we'll work on something together, as I'm a huge fan of Sasha!

Cheers, Snarly

Good to know. I've been wanting to try leaving footprints in the snow using your script. I figured out a way to do it. 😄

The Snow Machine code was incorporated into my EZMat script as a plugin.

I have a script named: SSM2MAC.py, last updated 03-17-12, and it works just fine on in Poser Pro 11 on my Mac. It took me a while to figure out that the Snow Machine script that was available via a Wacro was only for Windows users, and that I just needed to replace it with the one Snarly provided for Mac users. It's a lot of fun to use!

TOOLS: MacBook Pro; Poser Pro 11; Cheetah3D; Photoshop CC
