Subject: I'm not getting a new URL for the External Library

Miss B ( ) posted Mon, 06 April 2020 at 9:47 PM · edited Wed, 11 December 2024 at 8:54 PM

When I updated to PP11, my Internal Library showed me a URL to put in my browser in order to see my Library.

When I updated to PP11.2, it also gave me a "new" URL to put in my browser to see my Library.

That said, PP11.3 is still giving me the same URL I was using with PP11.2, so my External Library is empty. Does anyone know what it is, or where I can find it, because the Internal Library window is not updated with the new URL.

Thanks in advance.

UPDATE: OK, it turns out the URL for the External Library was not changed. What I had to do was edit the LibraryPrefs.xml file so that it would now look for the 11.3 Runtime, and not the old 11.2 Runtime.

Glad that got straightened out. 🙂

OK, I'm still having issues. I've tried to upgrade properly to 11.3, but I'm unable to do so, because the InstallPoser.exe file keeps mentioning 11.2, and it recreates a pretty much empty 11.2 directory, while everything I need, including my Runtime, is in an 11.3 directory.

That said, I've edited the LibraryPrefs.xml file to look for 11.3, because the old reference to 11.2 wasn't allowing me to see my Runtime. I also wanted to remove the Purchases folder, but I don't have it because I don't install my content to Public Documents, which is where Poser wants to install everything by default.

I've never had a problem with this in earlier versions, so I'm sitting here banging my head on my desk trying to get everything to work properly, and have Poser NOT recreate the 11.2 directory each time I boot up Poser. The biggest surprise is seeing the installer noting PP11.2, when it's supposed to be installing PP11.3.

One other note, with the first time I tried updating, it asked me if I wanted to uninstall the older version, and I selected not to do so, but now when I try to run the Install Poser file, it doesn't give me that choice, which I believe happened with each of the 11.2 updates as well, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised by that. I have my Runtime, AppData and a few other things backed up on my external hard drive, so I'm wondering if I "uninstall", and then try running both InstallPoser.exe and PoserSupport.exe files again, whether I'll finally get a proper working installation, and be able to delete the Purchases folder.

Oh and I "did" download the files again (just in case) even though both the Splash Screen, and the About popup in the Help menu, both state it's 11.3.740, so not sure what else I can try.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi.

The one I have still works for me HERE

try that one?

Also..it seems this was turned off in the current ini file. You can find the ini file here to change it:

Page 1041 of the Poser Ref Manual:

Windows: C:Users\AppDataRoaming Poser11

Mac OS X /Users//Library/Application Support/Poser/11/

LIBRARY_EXTERNAL_CLIENT 1

you may not see this folder due to windows settings. You need to make hidden files visible. Here is how you do that on Windows 10

INSTRUCTIONS

Miss B ( ) posted Wed, 08 April 2020 at 1:14 PM

Yes, that's the same URL I have, and I have the LIBRARY_EXTERNAL_CLIENT set to 1, so I'm getting the External Library to work. My issue now is getting the Install Poser file to actually go to the PP11.3 directory, and NOT recreate the PP11.2 directory, because that's not where my Runtime is.

I'm going to redownload the Install Poser and Poser Support files again, but I'm going to uninstall what I have now so it's a brand new install, rather than an installation over what was already there. Usually I do the install over the previous version with no issues, but this time I think uninstalling is what's needed, because it shouldn't be seeing the PP11.2 version I had before trying to upgrade to 11.3. I guess with the intermittent updates of PP11.2, it didn't make a difference, but with a whole new version it does.

Luckily I had already saved my Runtime, AppData, and other needed files not part of the Runtime, so I don't have to do that now. I'm hoping all will go well now. FingersCrossed.png

OK, Jenn, I have a question. While I was setting up the InstallPoser.exe, it was still looking for PP11.2, but this time when I changed it to read PP11.3, it installed Poser in the correct folder.

That said, while I watched it running through the installation process, it at a point near the end, said it was installing PoserSupport, so is the InstallPoser.exe set up to get the PoserSupport.exe file to run, because if that's what it was doing, I didn't realize it, and was running the PoserSupport.exe file after the InstallPoser.exe installation was finished. I didn't realize that, and that may have caused a problem, though I'm not sure. Would that be a problem?

The installer is setup to find and install the support files if they are in the same folder. Reinstalling the support files should not be an issue. 😄

Miss B ( ) posted Thu, 09 April 2020 at 2:04 PM

OK, I had both files in the same download folder, so it WAS finding and running the PoserSupport.exe file. Good to know. I may have more comments later.

OK, I finally have a clean install. The problem was, even though I uninstalled 11.2, that doesn't empty out the AppData folder, nor the Public Documents Content folder, which I never use anyway. Now at least it's not recreating the old 11.2 folder anymore. Deleting the AppData folder gave 11.3 nothing to look for, so it's a clean install now. 😁

Now I just have to slowly merge my old Runtime from 11.2 with the new Runtime for 11.3. That's going to take a while, but hopefully all will be good. FingersCrossed.png

OK Jenn, another quick question. When I first opened the Library in my browser, I expanded the bottom area where all the settings are for how you want to view the Library folders and thumbnails. I made my few changes, and then clicked on the 3 dots to collapse it again, BUT I have to do this every single time I open the External Library in my browser. I never had to do that before with PP11 and PP11.2. Any ideas why that's happening? I don't ever recall having to "save" that setup, but I'm not sure why I have to keep setting it up.

Miss B, on my macOS system, I found that any changes I made to library settings to suit a browser window actually were replicated on the internal Poser library client, which wasn't what I was expecting. I don't think provision has been made for multiple library client configurations. It would need multiple entries in whatever preference file contains those settings.

Miss B ( ) posted Sat, 11 April 2020 at 10:51 AM

Thanks for your response an0malaus, as I haven't explored it again today, but I think I know what the issue is. Since I never saw that before, I think it was because I had tried making the Library Prefs file Read Only, because I didn't want to see the Purchases and Documents folders in my External Library, so whatever changes I set up didn't get saved to the Library Prefs file.

I discovered I shouldn't have bothered, because those two, unnecessary to me, "Runtimes" show up anyway, so there's something in PP11.3 that's overwriting/ignoring the Library Prefs file as far as those two folders go. ~sigh~

Trying to delete that Purchase folder may be fruitless, it looks like its hardwired to any Renderosity purchase ready for install through Poser. There are no other options if you are installing through the Library.

For me, that's the issue, as I only manually install products. I have never used an install manager to install purchases I make at any site. Even with Daz's DIM, I only used it back in the day for downloading multiple products at one time. I never used it to install. So, having that Purchases folder, to me, is a waste of space.

I agree. I manually install just about all my downloads, free or purchased, with the exception of DAZ content. Their DIM is pretty reliable and efficient, in my opinion. They standardized all their content files, old and new, and that eliminates the guesswork of which file is properly set or not.

Miss B ( ) posted Sun, 12 April 2020 at 12:44 AM

I guess with content for DAZ|Studio I would probably agree, but the majority of the content I bought there over the years, were Poser compatible, so now I'm using them in Poser instead of DS.
